Important Reminder about the Start of the School Day

As a reminder, the school day starts at 8:00 am. Lower school students are expected to be in their classroom by this time, and middle school students are expected to be in the lunch area. All 1st - 8th grade students then proceed to Morning Assembly, which begins at 8:05. Students who arrive after 8:00 should head directly to the MPB and leave their bags outside the entrance.

For the next month, students who arrive after 8:10 am will be marked tardy to school, but starting in mid-October, tardies will be marked at 8:05.

Tardies and absences are part of student's transcripts sent to area high schools, and can be taken into consideration as part of the application process, so it is important for students to arrive to school in a timely manner.

For further clarification about the start of the school day, please see page 7 of the Student Parent Handbook, found in the Resources tab on your CougarNet account.

Come to Our First Community Coffee,

All parents are invited to come to the Manor House, Friday September 28th at 8:30 am, for a social gathering with light refreshments. Administrators will be in attendance to chat and answer questions. We hope to see you there!

Dr. Amy Patzlaff Spoke at Recent CFA Meeting

At this weeks first CFA meeting of the school year, Dr. Amy Patzlaff spoke on the exciting year ahead. In her address to parents she stressed the importance of embracing a growth mindset. Below are important highlights from her inspiring speech.

  • This year our theme is One Big Clairbourn Family. As a school family, we set the stage for student success by providing the atmosphere to support the academic challenge
  • When teachers design lessons, they do it with a  high ceiling. This allows everyone to participate and learn. It lets the less experienced or less confident students access the information, but also leaves room for the more experienced students to take their learning to the next level. It allows challenge for all students.
  • In the elementary grade, the key to success is developing the growth mindset. A growth mindset is one that values effort, values challenge, values pushing ones perceived limits.
  • People in a growth mindset tend to outpace those with a fixed mindset because they are willing to take risks and challenge limits. The great news is that the growth mindset can be learned.
  • Risk, failure, growth, resilience. These are the steps on the way to success. "There is no innovation and creativity without failure. Period." - Brene Brown
  • We need to help students frame setbacks or disappointments as learning opportunities and learn to use them as spring boards towards progress.
