From Head of School
With Heartfelt Gratitude
Dear Clairbourn Families,
It is with mixed emotions that I announce the retirement of our Lower School Director, Mrs. Karen Paciorek, after this academic year. After more than two decades of dedicated service to Clairbourn, she will embark on a new chapter of her life, full of family, travel and stained glass making. While we will miss her greatly, we are thankful for her many years of care and support to the Clairbourn community.
A Pasadena native, Mrs. Paciorek has a long connection to the school including having all of her children graduate from Clairbourn. In 1999, she joined the after-school program as the Daycare Supervisor for our grade one to eight students. Soon after, in 2000, Mrs. Paciorek joined the faculty full-time teaching first grade. She proved her genuine care for the students and her ability to work well with parents. When the former Preschool Director left, Mrs. Paciorek was appointed to take over this role in 2003. She then moved into the Lower School Director position in 2014 and ably supported the students, teachers, and parents in this capacity. In 2019-2020, Mrs. Paciorek added the title of Director of Enrollment Management to her job. She has contributed in varied and meaningful ways to the Clairbourn community as a parent, grandparent, employee and supporter. Her calm and thoughtful presence is felt!
Over the next few weeks, I will share information about our search for the next Lower School Director. But for now, please join me in appreciating Karen Paciorek’s remarkable tenure and the lasting impact she has made on Clairbourn School.
Amy Patzlaff, Ed.D.

Celebrating A Season of Festivities
At Clairbourn, we embrace the spirit of inclusivity by honoring all holidays and celebrating the diverse cultural traditions within our community. Whether it’s the joy of Christmas, the light of Hanukkah, the principles of Kwanzaa, or other cherished festivities, we recognize and respect the unique ways our families celebrate their heritage and beliefs.
Through school-wide events, classroom activities, and shared stories, we foster a sense of unity and appreciation for the rich cultures that make up our school. We wish all of our families a happy and restful winter break! |
Clairbourn Gift Policy
Gratitude is always welcome, but a gift is never necessary. A kind note, a genuine thank you or a word of gratitude is always meaningful.
Clairbourn has a stated gift policy for all employees:
• Employees may only accept gifts and/or gift cards that have a value of $100 or less.
• Employees may accept a gift and/or gift card of over $100 only if it is a collective gift and each individual’s contribution is $100 or less (i.e. the Scrip Gift at the holidays and end of the year).
Please help us by following this policy. If you feel you must do more than the note or word of thanks, please consider contributing to the group Scrip gifts at the holidays and at the end of the year. Please do not put any employees in an awkward situation by ignoring the policy.
If an employee receives something of higher value, it must be returned or given to the CFA for the auction. Thank you for your support!
