Clairbourn Insights
Well Done, Cougars!
Market Day was an opportunity for our third grade students to put their economic concepts learned in class into practice. Students worked together with partners to develop a market plan for the product they wanted to produce and sell. Once their product plans were complete, they had four in-class work sessions to produce their products and prepare them for Market Day!
Students determined the price of the products, created advertising posters in Canva. Then their products were sold at the annual third grade Market Day. Afterward, students calculated their income, less their production costs, in order to determine their net profit. What a fun and exciting learning experience for our third graders. It also helped to prepare them for future endeavors at the annual Clairbourn Entrepreneurial Fair!

Red Ribbon Week
Life is a Movie, Film Drug Free!
Thank you to Student Council for talking to us about the importance of making good choices! Red Ribbon Week is a time every year when we learn about drug abuse prevention and healthy lifestyles. This year's theme encouraged everyone to take center stage and let your story shine on you living your best life, without drugs. Student Council presented information by shining the spotlight on medicine safety, stranger danger, and healthy habits with our Clairbourn community.
What is medicine safety? Medicine safety means medicines are safe when used as described or as directed on the label. If you see a prescription drug that belongs to someone other than you, DO NOT take them. In order to tell when a medicine is safe to use, you should ask your trusted adults first so you won’t take the wrong drug.
What is stranger danger and how to protect yourself both online and in person? Strangers are people you don’t know, even if they claim to know your parents. Don’t talk to them, accept gifts, or rides. Online, never share personal information without your parents knowing. If a stranger makes you uncomfortable, say no and tell a trusted adult right away. Always check with your parents if someone offers to pick you up. Staying alert around strangers helps keep you safe—trust your instincts and make good choices!
What are healthy habits? One way to practice healthy habits is by eating well. This includes eating plenty of vegetables. Another important habit is exercising regularly,
such as running, swimming, or other activities. Getting enough sleep by going to bed on time is also essential. Let’s take a few minutes today to reflect on the healthy habits you already have and those you want to start!
Students also enjoyed a buddy activity playing "Goooood Choices Bingo" game. Each student signed a red paper strip, which was connected to create a paper chain that shows our school-wide commitment to good choices. Thank you to Student Council for planning this meaningful week.

Diwali: Festival of lights
Diwali, or Deepavali, is India’s biggest and most important holiday of the year. It symbolizes the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.
Diwali celebrates the day Rama returned to his kingdom with his wife Sita and his brother Lakshman after defeating the demon king Ravan. It is also widely associated with Lakshmi, the goddess of prosperity, and Ganesha the god of wisdom and the remover of obstacles.
During the festival, the celebrants illuminate their homes, temples and workspaces with diyas (oil lamps), candles and lanterns. People place intricate designs using different colored powder or sand called rangoli outside their homes. It is also celebrated by lighting firecrackers and eating delicious food.

GOOOOOO Cougar Mathletes!
Last week the 18 members of the Middle School Math Team competed in their first official match of the season. It is the Math Madness national online tournament and was held bright and early before school
After 3 difficult practice rounds over the last few weeks, we found our footing and were ready to apply all of the lessons we learned and work even harder. Both teams got off to a strong start. With half of the match remaining, it was still anyone’s game! Victor and Mars were our leading scorers in this match, but all team members answered difficult math questions to score points for our team.
It came down to the last few minutes of play as the scores were very close, but we pulled off a 17 to 14 victory! We look forward to the next few months of play in this tournament!
