October Design Challenge

<
Well done, Cougar Engineers!

For October’s Drop Everything & Build challenge, the middle schoolers and their fathers, grandfathers and visitors were challenged to build the tallest tower they could from just 20 index cards.

The trick was, the tower had to support the weight of one of the visitors’ cell phones. There were a variety of strategies for combining stability and height, and there was a lot of discussion and testing regarding triangles versus cylinders. Thank you to the fathers, grandfathers and visitors who were supportive of the design process and who put their trust in their engineering teams to keep their cell phones from falling! In the end…

The three tallest 7th grade towers were very close in height. The two runner-up teams were Warren and Milton and Keira and Austin. The tallest tower in 7th grade was built by Ethan and Ethan. The second-tallest tower in the 8th grade was built by Tommy and Malena, and the tallest 8th grade tower was built by Anthony and Sima. The runners-up in 6th grade were Atticus and Daniel, and the tallest tower in the entire middle school was built by Xenia and Kaitlin.
"Peace, Love, Books"
— A Heartfelt Thank You!

We want to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who helped make this event such a groovy success.

Even though the Book Fair lasts just four days, the preparations began long before summer, with countless hours of work and dedication poured into every detail.
Within the Book Fair, there were so many special events—Donuts & Discussions, the JPK-K Family Social, Parents Read-Aloud sessions, author visits, and even a reptile show! None of these events would have been possible without the hard work and support of our wonderful community. It really takes everyone's effort to keep things running smoothly, especially in the behind-the-scenes, non-glamorous roles that often go unrecognized. Your help, whether big or small, made all the difference.

A special shout out to Ryan Morehouse and his team for helping us with set-up and clean-up for the Book Fair. The spinning disco ball in the middle of the MPB was the cherry on top for our decorations.

The Book Fair committee is thankful for the generosity of our sponsors:
• Gold Sponsors: Jeremy and Luanne Stark (PK, 1st, 3rd), Betty Zhang Family (4th), Shirley Zhang and Ryan Liu (PK), Leidy and Michael Nijjar (PK, 2nd), Melissa and Sabraj Nijjar (1st, 3rd, 6th)

Lastly, a huge thank you to Mrs. Ward, our awesome librarian, who made all of this possible. Without her guidance and leadership, the Book Fair wouldn’t have been a success. And thank you to Mr. Ward for delivering and restocking books for us. All the children really appreciate it.
As we wrap up this groovy adventure, we just want to say: Peace, love, and THANK YOU! Catch you all on the flip side, Clairbourn! Stay cool and keep on reading!

To do this, we need your help Cougars! Throughout the month, you can drop off your pairs of socks at transportation in the plastic box. Please make sure the socks are unopened, unused and new! Thank you for your donations!
