Middle school students learn and build connections beyond the classroom
Our middle school students returned form their three day adventure trips to CIMI and Pali last Friday! They enjoyed many hands-on activities that gave them a deeper understanding of the marine and mountain ecosystems,
connected with nature and went on many hikes with their peers.
Besides the sea exploration, seventh and eighth grade students enjoyed land adventures as well and worked together to conquer CIMI's team-building challenges. They also took on the climbing wall under the stars, played an epic game of camouflage, and celebrated a classmate's birthday at CIMI!
Sixth graders tried out fun concoctions of mixed-up fountain drinks at Pali, a favorite tradition, and participated in lots of activities including archery and going on the zipline! They also loved the team building activities such as the ropes course, where they had to trust each other and belay for one another while singing Karaoke together.
Lots of encouraging words helped the students feel courageous enough to push themselves to try something a little bit intimidating. It was wonderful for our students to bond with each other off campus!
Special thanks to our dedicated middle school teachers who chaperoned these trips and provided unwavering support and supervision while ensuring our students' safety throughout this unforgettable experience.

Reading, Outdoor Discoveries and More!
Special reader volunteers filled our campus with joy and excitement as they helped kick off Book Fair Week. Many parents joined classrooms to read featured book fair selections to students from all grade levels. The students were thrilled by the engaging stories and delighted to see their families in the classroom, fostering a strong sense of community and connection. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our love of reading and share in the excitement of the book fair. A heartfelt thank you to all the parents and families who made this event so memorable!
Meanwhile, our JPK-K students embraced the tradition of outdoor exploration by taking off their shoes and socks, rolling up their pants, and digging a trench, with a hose placed at one end to create a flowing river. Over the years, they’ve expanded the river with lakes, bridges, and additional branches. This year, the river extended even farther, forming a circle around the back of the sandbox. The children loved every part of the experience—digging, pouring water, and walking along the riverbed. It was a fantastic opportunity for them to discover, play, and learn while fostering their curiosity and love for nature.
It was a week full of creativity, connection, and fun for all the students on campus!

Book Fair: Donuts and Discussion Highlights
We love seeing our students as active readers. Donuts and Discussion is a unique opportunity for a small group of students in grades 4-8 to meet with our visiting author, Kate Messner. This was an informal session in the library, where they exchanged thoughts on the books, discussed the writing process, and enjoyed getting to know each other. Great job, Cougars! |

Clairbourn Life
Mrs. Sov recently volunteered in the 8th grade science class on a lab day.
The students used settling, filtration and evaporation to separate different types of mixtures. Mrs. Sov's lab experience as an organic chemistry major and her career as a process engineer make her a helpful resource for the students in the hands-on exploration of science!
And look at how our fifth graders enjoyed some downtime, juggling with their fifth-grade teacher, Mr. Williamson!

The Power of Language
The middle school students learned the Pledge of Allegiance in Spanish. They mastered the 'Juramento a la Bandera' by reciting it in Spanish while simultaneously signing it using American Sign Language. Students in grades 6 through 8 demonstrated this during Morning Assembly.
We have been incorporating these insights into Spanish class as a way to raise awareness and support Hispanic Heritage Month, while also highlighting what students are learning in Spanish class, where Hispanic heritage, culture, and language are celebrated throughout the year! |
