Clairbourn Math Team

Equations, Dedication and Elevation:
We're the Clairbourn Mathletes!

In honor of tomorrow's Mathematics Day on December 22, we are proud to announce the accomplishments of our hard working math team! Clairbourn Middle School Math Team is a group of 12 students in grades 6-8 who meet twice a week in the early mornings before school. This fall, they competed in an exciting national online tournament called Math Madness, where they played against different schools each week in math matches.

They played schools from all over the country in both collaborative and individual rounds, where they worked hard to problem solve very challenging math questions. Our Cougar mathletes started the season with an impressive win streak, made it to the sweet 16 round of the tournament bracket and ended with a decisive winning record!

We are so proud of them for their enthusiasm, hard work and perseverance!

Quarter Two:
Sports Awards

Positivity • Team Work • Growth

The A and B girls basketball teams were a huge success this season and they made so much progress. The A team demonstrated perseverance and resilience, never giving up while developing their skills, having fun and supporting each other. The B team was relentless, yet poised under pressure. They went undefeated this season with balanced play and outstanding teamwork. The boys soccer team should be very proud of their hard work this season. They grew together as a team and showed a willingness to take on any position without hesitation. We are proud of everyone's dedication and hard work.

Middle School tennis team had an outstanding season. Through effective teamwork and shared determination, the team worked together and had many successful matches on the court. For many of the fifth and sixth graders it was their first basketball game at the sixth grade tournament so it was an exciting time and they all did very well!

December Drop Everything and Build

Can you build a device that holds the most weight for 20 seconds?

Middle school students had twelve minutes to build a device from 20 craft sticks, a binder clip, three paper clips, a plastic cup and tape to hold a stocking with the most weight. The stocking must hang for at least 20 seconds, and neither the plastic cup nor the craft sticks may be cut, torn or snapped. Everyone brainstormed, refined their ideas during the building time and had much success! Students from sixth to eighth grade were mixed up in teams during the advisories, enjoyed collaborating with peers from different grade levels and cheering each other on!

Congratulations to our Clairbourn Engineers for your creativity and exploration!

Clairbourn Insights:
Art That Inspires Every Mind!

Our campus has been transformed into a vibrant art gallery, thanks to the creative efforts of our students. Second graders created stunning oil pastel paintings of owls. Their process involved crafting the basic form, adding intricate details using colored pencils to carve into the oil pastel, while background elements were drawn directly. These artworks are framed with unique bubble letters, a skill taught by our art teacher, Ms. G, during a calligraphy lesson. Each student personalized their frame with chosen words, bringing a personal touch to their artwork!

In another burst of creativity, our first graders produced robot line work. This project wasn't just about art; it was a lesson in resilience and adaptability. The students learned the valuable skill of correcting mistakes without erasing, embracing imperfections and flowing with their creative process.

This is a perfect reminder that in life, it's not about the mistake you make but how you adapt and move forward that counts!

Thank you for supporting our fourth and fifth grade Operation Santa Paws!

Students collected bedding and blankets, dog and cat food, and various toys which were delivered to the shelters in the San Gabriel Valley. We appreciate the generosity of the Clairbourn community!
