Dia de los Muertos

Día de los Muertos is a vibrant celebration that originated in Mexico, designed to honor our ancestors and recently departed loved ones. The holiday is marked by an array of autumnal colors, festive food, celebrations and the creation of an "ofrenda" – an altar adorned with photos of our cherished family members, friends and loved ones. As part of the festivities, the students had the opportunity to learn a joyful and lively song that encapsulates the spirit of the Day of the Dead celebration.

They sang this song during Morning Assembly last week! One of the students' most cherished traditions in our Spanish class is savoring a slice of "pan de muerto" or Day of the Dead bread. Fourth to eighth grade classes had the pleasure of indulging in the delightful taste of this special bread during the festivities.

Students from fifth grade explored the theme further in art class. They learned a new medium, charcoal, and experimented with the blending technique with both white and black charcoal for their skeleton drawings. It is great to watch the artistic effects expressed in their artwork. They are on display in the Nafie Administration building if you want to take a look!
Clairbourn Life

The sixth graders went to the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts to see a production of Number the Stars, the novel studied during quarter one. The students enjoyed the opportunity to support the arts and see a beloved story come to life. Log in to Vidigami to view and download more photos from this week! Please email Jeanette Zamora for Vidigami support.
Clairbourn Insights

Achievements of the Byzantine Empire

Seventh graders went on a "Byzantine Empire Tour" during their social studies class. Working in pairs, students rotated among stations in their classroom to explore significant Byzantine sites such as the Hagia Sophia, the Hippodrome and other well-known places and events. They engaged with ancient music, answered questions and analyzed mosaics through puzzle assembly. What a way to "time-travel" and learn!

Clairbourn Gift Policy

Gratitude is always welcome, but a gift is
never necessary.
A kind note, a genuine thank you or a word of gratitude is always meaningful.

Clairbourn has a stated gift policy for all employees:

• Employees may only accept gifts and/or gift cards that have a value of $100 or less.

• Employees may accept a gift and/or gift card of over $100 only if it is a collective gift and each individual’s contribution is $100 or less (i.e. the Scrip Gift at the holidays and end of the year).

Please help us by following this policy. If you feel you must do more than the note or word of thanks, please consider contributing to the group Scrip gifts at the holidays and at the end of the year. Please do not put any employees in an awkward situation by ignoring the policy.

If an employee receives something of higher value, it must be returned or given to the CFA for the auction. Thank you for your support!

November 15 is Wacky Mismatch Day!

Feel free to wear clothes with bright colors and crazy patterns. Any crazy and mismatched clothing is great! You can even wear two different shoes. Something as crazy as wearing Giants and Dodgers logos would definitely get Dr. Patzlaff’s attention. I look forward to seeing how mismatched you can get!

The Season of Gratitude

As Thanksgiving approaches, it's a time to reflect on giving thanks and its positive effects. This week at our Morning Assembly, we discussed how giving thanks means putting gratitude into action, fostering stronger relationships and promoting kindness. Everyone is encouraged to inspire others and create a supportive community by actively practicing gratitude and giving thanks. Let's improve our own experiences, positively impact our families and communities and continue to be Scholars and Leaders with Heart!
