From Head of School

Important reminders about birthday celebrations and CFA-sponsored class parties from the school handbook!

ON-CAMPUS BIRTHDAY PARTIES

Although birthdays are a special time for children to share with their friends, holding on-campus celebrations for every child in a class can be quite disruptive to the instructional program. All parents must be familiar with and follow these guidelines.

The following general guidelines are for all grade levels:
          (a) Students/parents may NOT
          bring party favors, gifts, candy,
          goodie bags, decorations,
          balloons, or other similar items
          to be distributed at school.
          (b) Students/parents may bring a            treat for their classmates. This
must be limited to one simple food item and/or one
drink (preferably water). Please be respectful of food
allergies in your child’s class as stated previously.
          (c) If desired, a child may donate a book to the school
or classroom library in honor of their birthday.

OFF-CAMPUS PARTIES

When parties are held off campus, invitations may be distributed at school only if:
          (a) all students from a class are invited or,
          (b) all the girls in a class are invited or,
          (c) all the boys in a class are invited (exception: in
JPK and PK, all children must be invited if invitations
          are distributed on campus).

If the party will be held immediately after school, written permission is required from each child's parent on the day of the party in order for the child to travel off campus with someone other than their parent or regular caregiver.

**Whether invitations are distributed on or off campus, please consider the feelings of those students not invited to classmates’ parties, when planning the guest list. Excluding only two or three students from a party to which all other classmates are invited can be confusing and hurtful to those
not invited, at all ages.

CFA CLASS PARTIES

Each year the room parents provide class parties to celebrate Halloween, Winter Holiday, Valentine’s Day and the end of the school year. These parties, which are coordinated by the CFA and follow school-approved guidelines, are limited to simple food treats and one drink (preferably water) per child.

Gifts, toys, balloons or goodie bags
are NOT permitted.

Thank you for helping us create an
inclusive environment for our students!

Quarter One:
Honor and Music Awards

Clairbourn is committed to creating
Scholars and Leaders with Heart.

We are proud to share the quarter one academic achievements of our hard-working students. Students achieving Honor Roll status have earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher and no grade less than a B in their academic subjects and no citizenship grade less than an 1. Students achieving Head's List status have earned no grade less than an A in their academic subjects and no citizenship grade less than an 1. Each of you show heart in all you do and we are looking forward to seeing your continuous growth for the next quarter!

Throughout the year, students in the fourth to eighth grade who participate in the Clairbourn instrumental music program are dedicated to advancing their musical knowledge and skills. They strive to successfully complete rigorous assessments that test their general musical knowledge, instrument-specific proficiency and the ability to play their chosen instruments. A minimum achievement of 90% is set for passing each music level. Many of our talented musicians not only attained multiple levels but also exhibited dedication to self-improvement through their hard work and commitment. Congratulations to our Clairbourn musicians!
Holiday Giving

Children Helping Children in Need

Here is a list of charities for you to consider supporting as we approach the holiday season. Clairbourn students are Scholars and Leaders with Heart, so let’s show some HEART by helping those less fortunate than we are. If you choose to support one of the attached charities, please try to mention Clairbourn in your donations or purchases. Support is completely voluntary, but much appreciated. Please contact Heather Jones, Holiday Gift Giving Chair, with any questions.
Thank you for a great Entrepreneurial Fair!

We celebrated Clairbourn young entrepreneurs last week! Many Cougars participated at this year's Entrepreneurial Fair, showcasing a wide range of innovative products and practiced their collaboration skills. A special shout-out to our dedicated CFA and Entrepreneurial Fair chair Scott Smith for providing our students the opportunity to explore the world of entrepreneurship. What a great way for our Cougars AND our parents to demonstrate scholars' vision and leaders' actions with HEART!
Tar Pits Time Travel

Third-Graders Discover Ice Age Wonders

Third-grade classes recently visited the La Brea Tar Pits. They explored fascinating fossil exhibits featuring Ice Age creatures like mammoths, saber-tooth cats, and dire wolves. Students observed scientists at work in the fossil lab and experienced the sensation of getting stuck in sticky asphalt. They also witnessed the Ice Age brought to life in a live stage show. In the afternoon, they explored active dig sites and saw tar bubbling to the surface.

Special thanks to our wonderful parent chaperones for joining us on this excursion!

Special Halloween Concert from Clairbourn Band!

It has been a Clairbourn tradition for over 15 years for the Clairbourn Band to play at the Morning Assembly on Halloween morning. We were excited to welcome the return of this tradition this year! The Clairbourn Band played two songs including “Hedwig’s Them” from “Harry Potter” and the iconic theme song from the “Ghostbusters” (with GREAT audience interaction).

Thank you, Clairbourn Band, for a spectacular performance that certainly helped the community get into the Halloween spirit!

Clairbourn Life

On Halloween, students and faculty lit up the day with costumes that celebrated creativity, joy and the thrill of adventure!

Developing Athletes: Character Traits for Success

Last week at Morning Assembly, we discussed the important choices individuals and teams can make that define them as athletes.

These include discipline, pride, spirit, perseverance and accountability. Discipline involves focused attention on self-improvement and teamwork, fostering qualities like attentiveness, sportsmanship and self-control. Shared pride is an unselfish desire to become as good as possible for yourself and for the group, acknowledging other people and their accomplishments. Teachable spirit means being open to learning, staying punctual and accepting corrections as opportunities to improve. Perseverance allows athletes to overcome setbacks and mistakes. Lastly, accountability means taking responsibility and actively seeking solutions, acknowledging one's attitude and response are within their control.

These character traits transcend from sports and apply to various life situations. This mindset fosters growth in all aspects of life. We are scholars and leaders with heart!
