Early STEM Learning

Parachute Design and STEM Learning for Young Students

Clairbourn's preschool and kindergarten students, inspired by "Jack and the Beanstalk," embarked on an enriching journey into the world of STEM learning.

Through parachute design, they explored the scientific concepts of wind, gravity, and air resistance, honing their design thinking skills and enjoying the support of their dedicated teachers and engaged parents along the way. This educational adventure exemplified the power of hands-on learning to ignite young minds and foster a deep appreciation for the wonders of science and engineering. Red Ribbon Week

Be Kind to Your Mind

Thank you to Student Council for talking to us about the importance of making good choices and how to say no to drugs! During Red Ribbon Week, students enjoyed a buddy activity making origami and leaving positive notes to themselves and to each other. Everyone signed the school poster as their pledge to show commitment to making good choices. Thank you to Student Council for planning this meaningful week. To read the full blog, please click here!

Design Challenge

Middle school students enjoyed their October drop everything and build challenge, which took place last Wednesday on Fathers and Grandparents Visiting Day. During the event, each team was tasked with constructing craft-stick towers capable of supporting their visitors' cell phones. They had to accomplish this within a limited time
frame and with very few materials, consisting of only 50 craft sticks and 30 centimeters of tape. The participating groups considered a variety of strategies, with many experimenting with different designs to determine the most effective way to build a sturdy tower that could support a cell phone.

In the end, we would like to acknowledge our winning teams: For the sixth grade, our runners-up were Ricky and Eric; in the seventh grade, our runners-up were Mary and Melody; and in the eighth grade, our runners-up were Eudora and Vicky.

The winning team for the sixth grade was comprised of Keira and Mark. Special mention goes to the seventh graders Malena and Matthew B., who managed to build the tallest tower in the middle school, though it didn't meet the one-minute stability criterion. Consequently, the overall winners were a team from the seventh grade and a team from the eighth grade, who tied for first place. Congratulations to the seventh graders Lennon and Darren, and to the eighth graders Joseph and Christina.

Congratulations to all our talented Cougar engineers for their exceptional performance!

Fourth and Fifth Grade Visiting Day STEM Challenge

The fourth and fifth graders competed in a race car STEM activity on Fathers and Grandparents Visiting Day. Everyone had a lot of fun building, testing and racing their cars.

Congratulations to the Most Creative Awards winning teams: Lizey (4B), Jennifer (4G), Caleb (5th)

The goal of the STEM activity was to build a race car that could travel the farthest distance. It was a very close competition with everyone's hard work on display. Here are the recognition to the top three students: third place (25 feet) - Porsche and second place (27 feet) - Kaitlin. The overall winner with a distance of 29.5 feet was Atticus. Congratulations everyone!

Clairbourn Life

The seventh-grade students have started their study of cell structure and function. They enjoyed a visit from a seventh-grade parent, Dr. Talisman, to learn about microscopes. Dr. Talisman specializes in microscopy and nanobiology at City of Hope and she showed the students how to use foldscopes.

Thank you for sharing your expertise and broadening students' minds in the field of science!

At Clairbourn, we create Scholars and Leaders with Heart. A small act of love, such as donating a pair of socks, can make a big difference in the lives of people in our community who are homeless.

THANK YOU!

We have book fair t-shirts available for sell at the CFA store. Please check it out if you are interested!
