Middle school students learn and build connections beyond the classroom

Our middle school students returned form their three day adventure trips to CIMI and Pali last Friday! They enjoyed many hands-on activities that gave them a deeper understanding of the marine and mountain ecosystems, connected with nature and went on many hikes with their peers.

Besides the sea exploration, seventh and eighth grade students enjoyed land adventures as well and encountered bison during their hikes. They also met with the renowned wetsuit designer Clarisse Bluberry and celebrated a classmate's birthday at CIMI! Sixth graders tried out fun concoctions of mixed-up fountain drinks at Pali, a favorite tradition, and participated in lots of team building activities as well as going on the zipline! It was wonderful for our students to bond with each other off campus!

Special thanks to our dedicated middle school teachers who chaperoned these trips and provided unwavering support, supervision and ensuring our students' safety throughout this unforgettable experience. To read the full blog, please click here!
A Trip to International Printing Museum

Our fifth graders went on an exciting field trip to the International Printing Museum. They learned about typography, typesetting and the history of printing by experiencing what a colonial printing shop was like. They saw how Franklin’s press was used and observed the Gutenberg machines that are 1400-years-old. Students learned about the evolution of communication through print and even got to print cards by hand on a variety of authentic printing presses. Our students certainly left with a deeper appreciation for the art of printing and a connection to the past!
Hispanic Heritage Month

Interview with Ms. Flores

Thank you to Student Council for leading the way and celebrating the hispanic culture within our community by conducting another successful faculty interview. We heard from our preschool assistant Ms. Flores about how she is connected through ancestry and traditions and her favorite thing about her Mexican and Guatemalan heritage.

Solar eclipse this Saturday morning!

This Saturday, October 14, a partial annular eclipse will be visible in southern California. An annular eclipse is also known as a "ring of fire" eclipse, when the moon's shadow covers the center of the sun and leaves a ring of light around it. The partial eclipse will be about 70% visible in Southern California, beginning a little after 8 am on Saturday morning, with the maximum at 9:24 am, and ending at 10:50 am.

It is never safe to look directly at the sun, so Clairbourn will be providing eclipse glasses for each student. Submit your eclipse viewing photos here so we can share the actions next week with the community!

Happy eclipse viewing, Cougars!

The Garden of
Our Daily Lives

We are in the month of October and we might think of Autumn as a time for Halloween costumes and lots of candy! But, it is at this time of year, when some people, like the gardeners and farmers, think about their crops and are bringing in their last harvest of the season.

Everyone in our community is encouraged to think about the garden of our daily lives and what crops we can grow to make us a better self.

We plant lettuce -- lettuce be kind, patient, faithful and really love one another. We plant squash -- we squash gossip, grumbling selfishness and indifference.

We plant turnips -- it is important to be responsible and turn-up for practices, service and to help one another. We plant thyme – thyme for family, friends and each other.

Lastly, we plant peas! If we planted all of the plants above, the result WILL BE peas – PEACE OF MIND, PEACE OF SOUL, AND PEACE OF HEART!

Show your Cougar spirit by visiting our Spirit Store!
