Thinking Outside the Box

Last week, third graders enjoyed a fun engineering project called The Marshmallow Challenge. Students teamed up and were given 20 pieces of spaghetti, 1 yard of tape and string, 1 marshmallow and scissors. The objective was to build the tallest freestanding tower in the allotted time. There was a buzz in the classroom as partners enthusiastically discussed their ideas and started constructing their towers. By the end of the 25 minutes, there were a handful of successful towers. Each student was proud of their accomplishment and they are eager to try it again!
2023 Math Team

Multiply Potential with the Math Team

Clairbourn middle school's math team is a group of 12 students who meet two mornings a week before school. These enthusiastic students joined in order to challenge themselves further in math, think critically outside of the box with new types of application problems, and represent their school in local and national competitions! We can't wait to see what they will accomplish this year!

Never Give Up!

This week's inspirational message at our Morning Assembly is “Never give up.” Students have been learning about all kinds of people who had to try over and over again to achieve their goals before they finally succeeded. They were patient and determined, and they didn’t let discouragement make them quit.

Did you know Thomas Edison failed over 9,000 times before he perfected the light bulb?

When asked how he felt about failing so many times, Edison replied, "I was glad I found 9,000 ways NOT to invent the light bulb!" From that point forward, Edison went on to receive 1,093 patents, more than any other person in U.S. history.

Did you know the Olympic gold medalist Wilma Rudolph was born with polio and needed braces in order to walk?

It was through her persistence and determination that she went on to become a three-time gold medalist. She always told young people, “the most important aspect is to have confidence in yourself.  I remind them that the triumph can’t be had without the struggle.”

Cougars, let Thomas Edison's determination and Wilma Rudolph's persistence be your inspirations to grow into Scholars and Leaders with Heart!
