Lola Wallden Memorial Scholarship

In memory of Mrs. Wallden’s 36 years of service to the students at Clairbourn, the trustees established the Lola Wallden Memorial Scholarship Fund to recognize the fourth or fifth grade student who has demonstrated hard work and persistence, qualities that Mrs. Wallden found to be most important in developing quality individuals.

Ann Wakefield

Eighth Grade Speeches

Good Morning everyone, I am Marc Cheung. I have been at Clairbourn for 11 years, from pre-school all the way to 8th grade. Before I start off this speech, I would like to thank my parents, classmates, teachers, and everyone who helped me. You, and my Clairbourn education, have taught me the value of asking the right questions. Let me ask you something: How many questions have you asked in your life? What were they about? How many of them were to help others?

Celebrating Music Achievement

We recognized fourth to eighth grade students who showed an unwavering commitment by investing time in their daily practice and collaboration with their peers. They passed the general musical knowledge tests and performed leveled pieces on their specific instrument.

We used the music levels inspired by the nationwide standard throughout the United States:
Level 1: elementary level
Level 2: middle school level
Level 3: high school level
Level 4: college or competitive high school level
Level 5: competitive university level
Level 6: professional level

Clairbourn Music Levels expanded from the six levels into sub-parts in order to give the students more goals to readily achieve. We currently have students who are playing at the elementary school level, many at the middle school level, quite a few at the high school level and one that recently passed a playing test at the college level!

Using these testing levels allows students to improve at their own pace. We are proud of our Cougars' dedication.

Congratulations!

Q4 Honors and
Music Awards

Clairbourn is committed to creating Scholars and Leaders with Heart.

We shared the quarter four academic achievements of our hard-working middle school students this week. Students achieving Head's List status have earned no grade less than an "A" in their academic subjects and no grade less than a "1". Students achieving Honor Roll status have earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher and no grade less than a "B" in their academic subjects and no grade less than a "1".

Your commitment in academic pursuits shows in all you do and we are so proud of each of you!

2024 Clairbourn Cardboard Regatta

Teams of five eighth graders built boats out of cardboard, plastic sheeting and duct tape for the annual Clairbourn Cardboard Regatta. The construction process included wonderful teamwork, cooperation and determination. All three teams showed how much they can achieve when they work together. Three boats entered the regatta, all of which were able to float at least until people got into them!

First up are the winners of the submarine award. This dubious distinction is earned by the team whose boat sinks the quickest. We had one team sink pretty quickly, and then they made an impressive effort to continue as a submarine. Jerry C., Jayden, Marc, Madeline and Eudora will have their names permanently sharpied onto the Submarine Trophy.

The two remaining boats were propelled across the water by their crews of one or two people, earning five points per person for each completed length of the pool. In the end, one team reigned supreme and earned a total of 40 points for four full lengths completed by their two sailors. Their names will be permanently sharpied onto the Regatta Champions trophy.

Congratulations to the winners of the 2024 Clairbourn Cardboard Regatta: Joseph, Jerry Z., Amanda, Christina and Isabelle.

Thank you to middle school science teacher Ms. Vinnedge for running this annual event, Mrs. Messler for being the scorekeeper and Mr. Ball for lifeguarding. A special shoutout goes to Mr. Beaber for designing and laser-cutting the medals for our winners!

Great job eighth grade Cougars for showing your teamwork and sportsmanship!
