Discovering Nature's Wonders with JPK!

Over the past few weeks, students from JPK explored the life cycle of caterpillars. They started with "Caterpillar Art" and observed 15 caterpillars grow. JPK students practiced spelling through creative caterpillar-themed writing exercises and expressed their musical talents with caterpillar songs. As the weeks progressed, the caterpillars transformed into cocoons, and then butterflies. The students documented these changes and crafted life cycle necklaces using pasta to represent each stage of a caterpillar’s life.

To wrap up the unit, everyone participated in a butterfly release wearing their painted wings! It was a beautiful
activity and fourteen butterflies were released into our garden. This project enhanced students' scientific knowledge while fostering a deeper appreciation for nature! Do you know butterflies taste with their feet? Next time when you see a JPK student, ask them some fun facts about butterflies.
Community Helper

PK students have been learning about various helpers within our community.  Each week they enjoyed a dramatic play station where they could pretend to be a community helper. Stations included a school, a veterinary clinic, a construction site, a supermarket and a police/fire station. Various community helpers were also invited to visit the preschool classroom and share information about their jobs.

So much excitement is happening
everyday in the preschool area!

Young Engineers Shine in Star Wars
Themed Spacecraft Challenge

To celebrate Star Wars Day, the middle schoolers teamed up with the fourth and fifth graders for a special Drop Everything & Build Challenge. The teams were tasked with building a spacecraft that could fly the farthest distance while keeping a Grogu figurine secure. Using paper, craft sticks, straws, paperclips and their combined engineering brain power, the students built a wide variety of Star-Wars-inspired spacecraft. We saw everything from TIE fighters and X-wings to a couple of giant star destroyers.

Among the eighth grade and fourth (4G) grade teams, the runners-up were Joseph and James, and the longest distance was achieved by Valen, Jason and Lawrence. Among the fifth and sixth grade teams, Austin and Aiden were the runners-up, and Grogu flew the farthest in the spacecraft built by Wan-Tao, Emily and Caleb. Last but not least, among the fourth (4B) and seventh grade teams, the runners-up were Fiona and Penelope, and the spacecraft that carried Grogu the farthest in the entire challenge was built by Anthony, Matthew B. and Isaac!
