April Drop Everything
and Build Day

For April’s Drop Everything & Build challenge, the middle school students were tasked with building the tallest tower that could be pulled across the table without falling. Each tower was required to have a string attached to it, and the height of the tower was measured after it had been moved.  Nothing could fall off the tower and hit the table, or the tower would be disqualified. The students had to design with both stability and height in mind.

In the eighth grade, the runners-up were Simon and Vicky, and the tallest tower was built by Valen, Jerry C., and Madeline. In the sixth grade, the runners-up were Aaron and Alan, and the tallest tower was built by Hins and Keira. In the seventh grade, the runners-up were Teddy and Jerry, and the tallest tower in the entire middle school was built by Fiona and Ruby.

Well done, Cougar engineers!

Happy National
Library Day

Students are able to enjoy quiet time in this beautiful space. Celebrating the love for literature is a significant part of Clairbourn students' daily lives. It is integrated into their daily routines, from classroom learning to buddy reading time that connects students across all grade levels. We love to promote a sense of community, inclusivity, positive relationships and a supportive environment for all involved. It makes us smile when we hear the children's laughter filling the campus!

Auction Highlights

Twenty lucky winners joined SWIFTIE teachers Ms. Montgomery, Mrs. Messler and Mrs. Hanner in the Manor House for an enchanting experience of dancing and singing to The Eras Tour film, Taylor Swift themed activities and treats. Everyone showed up in an "Eras" outfit or their favorite Swiftie shirt to enjoy this fun time celebrating music together!

Fourth grader Mia Z. was the Director of Communications and Marketing this Monday! She had a productive meeting with Dr. Patzlaff and covered classroom visit to the middle school design challenge. The special visitors, the energetic geese on campus, were her favorite objects to photograph! She got to invite a friend to join for lunch. Check out the geese photo Mia took above and her upcoming poster by the transportation display. Thank you Mia for a great day as the director of marketing!

A group of students had a blast at the auction art party with the art teacher Ms. Germonprez. They painted and were creative with various materials. It was an afternoon filled with laughter, chatter and the sound of pencils sketching on paper. Everyone had a great time expressing themselves through art!

Dinosaur Unit Culminates in Explosive Volcano Experiment at PK!

As the preschool's culminating activity for the dinosaur unit, Mr. Beaber showed students how to construct a volcano and make it erupt using dish soap, warm water and hydrogen peroxide. They discussed various theories about how dinosaurs could have died, with a volcano eruption and the resulting smoky, polluted air being one of them.

Sixth Graders Bring The Phantom Tollbooth to Life

In The Phantom Tollbooth, Milo goes through the imaginary Lands Beyond on a quest to rescue two princesses. Throughout his journey, he learns new things, such as the value of reading and writing, the nuance of perspective, the beauty in sound and color, how to use his time wisely, and, most importantly, how to appreciate learning for its own sake. Along the way, however, he encounters creatures hoping to obstruct his path (and growth!). So, Milo must think wisely to conquer and keep progressing.

As an end-of-book project, the sixth grade students were all assigned creatures from the story. Their task: Create a Public Service Announcement (PSA) using Canva. They were asked to include the demon's name, characteristics and what a person is to do if he /she encounters the creature. Additionally, the students prompted Canva's Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to generate their own image of the demon.

Mastering watercolor techniques and explore abstract expressionism

The fifth grade students produced beautiful watercolor paintings with colored pencil details. They learned how to show depth by using object size and the concept of perspective.

Middle school students created acrylic abstract art by squirting a mixture of black paint and water from bottles, then filling in sections of the design with acrylic paint.
