Grateful for our Clairbourn Community

Dear Clairbourn Families,

I am still thinking about the fun we all had together as a community on Friday. The student booths at the Entrepreneurial Fair were amazing! I especially enjoyed the products the students created and the variety of ideas we saw. I personally came away with some pretty cool stuff from hand-made bracelets, student-authored books, book marks with student art, food prepared by the students, plants carefully tended and watered and stickers with student art to watermelon lemonade poured by a JPK student all by herself! Then we had some amazing Texas BBQ along with bonding in the form of line dancing. I have to say, I was impressed with the skills and abundant joy expressed by everyone! This community knows how to have a great time together!

Now we are saddling up for our Book Fair! This is a great way for us to come together to celebrate our love of reading! As part of the Book Fair week, we also have our Fathers and Grandparents Visiting Day. Please RSVP so we can prepare appropriately to maximize our fun!

History comes alive in social studies!

Eighth graders are in the middle of the Europeans Reach the Americans history unit and did a mock trail of the People (Taino tribe) vs Columbus, et al. Students were put into groups and asked to defend Columbus, Columbus' crew, the King & Queen of Spain and the Spanish empire against genocide, enslavement, occupation and theft of lands and war crimes. They had a very lively and thought-provoking discussion about who is responsible for these crimes. It's amazing to see how history comes alive in the middle school social studies class.

What a successful Entrepreneurial Fair and Clairbourn Family BBQ!

Dear Clairbourn Families,

Last week, CFA held the 7th Annual Entrepreneurial Fair which featured 52 booths. Our Cougars sold a wide range of products including lemonade, make-your-own Lego figures, baked goods, and much more. Students also had many brilliant business ideas from a pet adoption center to a nerf shooting gallery. Our young entrepreneurs put a lot of effort into their business planning. Thank you to our Entrepreneurial Fair Chairs, Scott Smith and Kate Santiago, for your dedication and hard work in making this event such a success.

Following the Entrepreneurial Fair, Family BBQ chairs John Shieh, Eric Sasahara and Chin Guok planned a fun and delicious afternoon to continue the festive event. The celebration included line dancing led by a professional dancer from the Fred Astair Dance Studio. The mouthwatering BBQ was provided by Craft by Smoke and Fire. Families were served brisket, chicken strips, mac and cheese and potato salad. Thank you to our BBQ “Dad Crew” members Claudia Bodan, Eduardo Diaz, Kayla Acuña, Oscar Ramirez, Joy Bonwell, David Li, Zhong Nan Lu, Jason Chien, John and Floy Shieh, Eric Sasahara, Chin Guok, Che Wang, Ryan Morehouse, Michael Lee, Alex Hsu, Julia Wang and Gigi Chen for working tireless hours setting up tables, chairs and tents and then having to break down everything in the dark.

A special thank you to our Family BBQ leader John Shieh for putting his heart and soul into this event. He is detail oriented and always makes the best layouts for our events. This was such a great community-building event, thanks to all of our wonderful volunteers.

Thank you!
Ting Sung & Lucy Balikian, CFA Co-Presidents

Community Service Opportunity for Door of Hope

Our Student Council made October a "Socktober" month! They are asking everyone to donate a new, unused pair of socks to Door of Hope.

At Clairbourn, we create Scholars and Leaders with Heart. A small act of love, such as donating a pair of socks, can make a big difference in the lives of people in our community who are homeless.

Thank you to the Student Council for this idea. Please bring your new pairs of socks, in children or adult sizes, to the box at transportation between now and the end of Socktober. Thank you!
