From Head of School

Proud to be Cougars

Dear Clairbourn Families,

This week I was thinking about our recent admissions tour. We had 50 parents on campus checking us out to see if Clairbourn would be a good fit for their child. After the tour, several of us stand at the entrance to answer any last questions and to say goodbye. It is a great way for us to see our school through the eyes of someone else. They share their perspectives, feedback, impressions, and reactions with us.

On the tour last week, the feedback was all about the teachers. These parents, who are often touring 3-8 schools, told us how impressed they were with the professional and caring faculty. They also noted how engaged, kind, and polite our students are. I love hearing that, because our teachers work with such energy and passion, and rarely have the opportunity to be seen by anyone but their students. And our students are constantly doing such great work, I am always grateful when it is recognized.

So Happy World Teachers Day (yesterday!). We are grateful for all the teachers do!

Student Council

Thank you to Student Council for doing a tremendous job celebrating diversity and highlighting contributions during Hispanic Heritage Month. You reminded us to be persistent like Ellen Ochoa who was the first Hispanic female to work at NASA. Your interview with Mrs. Rubio, our Spanish teacher, helped us gain a deeper understanding of this colorful and rich culture. We look forward to honoring more cultures in the months to come!

Clairbourn Insight

Third Grade Market Day Unit

Market Day was an opportunity for our third grade students to put their economic concepts learned in class into practice. Students worked together with partners to develop a market plan for the product they wanted to produce and sell. Once their product plans were complete, they had four in-class work sessions to produce their products and prepare them for Market Day!

Students determined the price of the products and created advertising posters. This year the students worked in our new I-Lab and learned to use Canva to create these posters.Their products were sold at the annual third grade Market Day yesterday. Afterward, students calculated their income, less their production costs, in order to determine their net profit. What a fun and exciting learning experience for our third graders. It also helped to prepare them for future endeavors at the annual Clairbourn Entrepreneurial Fair. Well done, Cougars!
