From Head of School

Much to look forward to!

Dear Clairbourn Families,

This was a great week here at Clairbourn. We had our first CFA meeting of the year and each presentation got me more excited about the upcoming events. They talked about the Book Fair where we are strengthening a love of books, the Entrepreneurial Fair where we are promoting student innovation and early business trials, and the Family BBQ where we are encouraging the whole family to come together and build community with students and parents alike. The CFA also encouraged the parents to sign up for events as volunteers. I love that there is an opportunity for everyone. Parents with more flexible schedules have opportunities to volunteer many times during the year, and parents who have less flexible schedules can sign up for a single shifts at an event or even focus on the Saturday Carnival opportunities. Everyone can make a difference in the way that works for their own schedule.

We had our first Student Council sponsored theme dress day where we get the whole community together to have some fun. Then finally, tomorrow, we have our first Clairbourn Shirt day, where we all show our school spirit, and then top it off with the Cougar Corner Grand Opening on Friday after school. It should be a lot of fun with popsicles for everyone!

Clairbourn Insights

Author Talk by Max Braillier on Earth Series

Author Max Bralllier visited Claribourn and spoke to students from third to fifth grade about his bestselling series The Last Kids on Earth. He talked about his childhood, his journey to becoming a writer, his inspiration for the series, where his ideas come from, and why revising what you write can actually be pretty fun!

The Last Kids on Earth series explores an apocalyptic world, but never loses sight of the fun, adventure and child-like wish fulfillment, told with a viewpoint of the importance of friendship and community.

Max Brallier is a New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal bestselling author. He is also a writer and producer for Netflix's Emmy award-winning adaptation of The Last Kids on Earth. Max lives in Los Angeles with his wife and daughter. We were so thrilled to meet him!
Art Around Our Campus

Picasso and Kandinsky’s abstract strokes, the magic of Claymation and the watercolor landscapes and undersea drawings fill the air in our art room! Our Cougars immerse themselves in creativity every day. They produced watercolor/stained class inspired Chagall windows and abstract Mondrian artwork! If you get a chance, check out the art display in the administration building! You will be inspired too!
Clairbourn Families Association (CFA)

Thank you for coming to our first meeting!

Our first CFA meeting of the year was a huge success! It was so great seeing new and returning parents sign up to volunteer or chair many school events. We are grateful for each of you!

Drop Everything & Build

September's Design Challenge:
Building bridges to hold the most weight

For this year’s first Drop Everything & Build, middle school students were challenged to build bridges out of 25 straws and a limited amount of tape.

The goal was to build the bridge that could hold the most weight! In eighth grade, the runners-up were William and Theo, and the winners were Peter and Aramis. In seventh grade, the runners-up were Asal and Akira and Vicky and Carson, and the winners were Jayden and Joseph. In sixth grade, the runners-up were Lukas and Teddy, and the winners were Jerry W. and Matthew B., whose bridge was the most successful out of the entire middle school!

All our Cougar engineers worked hard to build their bridges in the face of tough materials constraints and time constraints. Well done!
