Announcing Clairbourn’s New Peng-Liu Innovation Lab

Design Thinking • Creativity • Problem Solving

In an environment where every child has access to a school-supplied iPad, it is not necessary to have a dedicated space for students to use computers. Today, it is important for students to create, problem solve real world issues, code, design, question, research with discernment, and communicate in a variety of ways with skill. It is no longer enough for students to follow set instructions to achieve a specified goal.

Our students will learn to use design thinking, where they learn to ask the kinds of questions to lead to creative solutions. They will now have the tools to implement these solutions and go through a prototyping process to iterate on their ideas and make continuous improvements. It is an exciting time to be a student and this space will facilitate this kind of learning.

The Peng-Liu Innovation Lab, located in the Robert W. Nafie Building contains:
  • Robotics parts, tools, and programing software
  • 3D printers
  • Laser cutter
  • Cricut Machines
  • Vacuum former
  • Workbenches
  • Green screen abilities
  • Lots of supplies for creative problem solving

To redesign and modernize the space, we:
  • Removed walls and posts for a productive functional space
  • Provided efficient HVAC
  • Ensured proper ventilation for new equipment
  • Provided additional storage for the student tools and projects
  • Performed an electrical upgrade
  • Modified the exterior to allow for direct access to the space and completed new landscaping
  • Added a ramp to exterior entrance

All of this was made possible by several generous donors. Mr. Alex Peng and Ms. Angela Liu were our lead donors, providing over half of the funding needed for this project. Mr. Jun Lu, Mr. Oscar Duan and Ms. Kelly Ling, and Ms. Fiona Zhang all made significant contributions to fund the other half of the project. These generous donors all shared our vision of a new space to support student growth. They could see the potential in investing in our students to support problem solving and creative thinking needed in our ever-changing world. We are very grateful for their support, leadership, and generosity extended to our students and our school.

Please join us on our first day of school after our Morning Assembly and during the CFA Coffee on the Quad for a ribbon cutting and grand opening of the new Peng-Liu Innovation Lab.
