We Have Lots to Celebrate!

Dear Clairbourn Families,

I have been enjoying the end-of-the-year celebrations and events. One of my favorite traditions is having our eighth graders write speeches about what they have learned during their time here. They have great stories that illustrate their learnings around different themes. We have learned about living in the present, taking risks, working hard for goals, insisting on kindness, and being our best selves. Although they are still learning, growing, and maturing, this kind of reflection is important and often quite meaningful. I am glad they are willing to share this part of themselves with us.

I am also excited for our students who are not graduating to prepare for their next school year. They are each ready for the new challenges that await them, since they will build on what they have learned so far. Summer is almost here, so let's make the best of the last few days!

Way to go Cougars!

Student Council Appreciation

It is our pleasure to recognize and applaud the members of the 2022-2023 Clairbourn School Student Council. Your Student Council is composed of innovative, energetic and fun-loving scholars and leaders with heart. This year, our meetings took place outside and then inside and then outside again and then inside again, and the members of Student Council continuously worked together to accomplish all the special activities and events mentioned by Arthur and Megan at Morning Assembly.

Thank you for working on a truly impressive variety of projects, even while going through a truly shocking number of plastic forks. Student Council members were presented with their own reusable cutlery sets to remind them of their fun time in Student Council and to help them act a little more sustainably in the future.

Student Council advisor Ms. Vinnedge would like to recognize and thank the following members:

Bonding as a Community

Over the course of the year, Student Council designed and implemented a buddy scavenger hunt for the first through eighth grade students. Student Council wrote and recorded clues that led to various locations on campus. A QR code at each location led to the video with the next clue. Before spring break, middle school students joined forces with the first through third grade students to complete the hunt. Last week, it was fourth and fifth grades’ turn, pairing up with seventh and eighth grades. Student Council's hard work paid off with a fun experience for all the grades who joined in! Thank you for your leadership and showing HEART!
Music Certificate Presentation

Ms. Kiertzner awarded the Clairbourn Music Level Certificates to students in fourth through eighth grade band.

Each student in fourth through eighth grade band is given opportunities to test their musical knowledge about their particular instrument and to demonstrate their ability on their instrument. These tests must be passed with a score of 90% or better in order to pass each level. Each Clairbourn music level marks a higher level of musical knowledge and playing ability.

Many students in the band music program have passed multiple levels! Congratulations, Clairbourn musicians!

Eighth Grade Speeches

Eighth-grade students have been sharing their remembrance speeches during Morning Assembly. Read their heart-felt speeches about the growth they have experienced, the memories they have made, and the overall impact Clairbourn has had in their lives.

Good morning Dr. Patzlaff, Mrs. Taylor, teachers, parents, students, and the class of 2023. My name is Arthur Zhang and I have been at Clairbourn for 5 years. When I came to Clairbourn, I was shy, timid, scared, and unfortunately, had a haircut I didn’t like. When I first walked into the 4th-grade classroom I had thoughts such as,” What if they don’t like me?” Or “What if they think I am weird?” Now, my thoughts in 8th grade are “What’s for lunch?” Or “Let’s play some basketball!” My years at Clairbourn have been not only happy but also memorable.

My name is Annika Lin. My life at Clairbourn is quite short. I’ve only been attending Clairbourn for two years. However, these two years taught me a lot. I would say the most important thing Clairbourn taught me was to work hard and keep walking the road. Now, some of you are probably wondering what does that mean? My interpretation of this would be that life is like a road, there will always be obstacles. Instead of giving up, work hard to overcome every obstacle.

When I started Clairbourn as a middle schooler, life was easy. Video games, outdoor swings, Netflix movies, sleep, I got all of them. But then, as time passed, the video games turned into homework and the movies into studying. As I went further into middle school, the difficulty further increased, and challenges began to arise. I couldn’t play video games, watch movies, or even sleep! I became afraid, afraid to disappoint my family and my friends. Fortunately, I was surrounded by the people who cared and loved me the most, my family. They taught me that challenges were just a part of life and that I can overcome them.

I’d like to start off by thanking the Clairbourn community for everything you all have done for me. Fellow students, my teachers, the parents, and everyone else, from the bottom of my heart, thank you all for the opportunities, memories, lessons, and “hello!”s you’ve given me. Being where I am today would’ve never been possible without everyone here who has helped build me. So I’d like to share with you all today one of the most important things that I’ve learned from this school – and will absolutely be taking with me: the importance of being present.

By staying focused and committed to your path, you can overcome obstacles and accomplish your goals. For those of you who know me I'm Aramis, for those who don’t I’m Aramis. My journey at Clairbourn started when I transferred here in 6th grade. It was during covid on Zoom. It was honestly awkward for me because I was in a new environment with new people. I didn't know if I was going to make any friends at all.  If my memory serves me right though, I was put into a group with some really nice, funny, and calm classmates.

Montana Jones and the Gymnasium of Doom by seventh grade students!

The 7C Drama students have been working hard this quarter taking a one act stage play and adapting it for film. Every 7C student has a role in the video, but when they were not on screen, students would help as film crew, line monitors, or sometimes even security detail (keeping walkways clear and quiet for filming). Please enjoy this Indiana Jones parody movie filmed by 7C called - Montana Jones and the Gymnasium of Doom.

Honoring Asian Pacific American Heritage month

As we continue to recognize Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, we were excited to welcome Filipino American concept artist Anthony Francisco who previously worked at Marvel Studios designing iconic creatures like Baby Groot, Loki and Black Panther's Dora Milaje to name a few. He sat down for an interview to describe how the Filipino culture inspired his work.

Lost and Found

Lost and Found items will be displayed at the transportation area through 5/31. Non-claimed items will be donated to the Goodwill or the used uniform sale. Please mark your child's name on all school items such as water bottles, uniforms and PE clothes.
