A Community Full of Heart

Dear Clairbourn Families,

Yesterday we celebrated a great year of CFA volunteering by recognizing those who served on the CFA board. We also welcomed many new faces who are joining the Board next year. The room was full of very happy people all of whom have given their time and talent to events and activities that benefit our students and community. Some of these events raise money that supports things like our playground renovation, the new outdoor learning spaces in the 4th & 5th grades, supplies for the Liu-Peng Innovation Lab, and sports uniforms.

In addition to the remarkable fundraising for our students, CFA also does community building and provides opportunities for parent bonding. Each of these activities requires effort to make them successful and joy-filled. The CFA volunteers do the work to make every event fun for the students and positive for all who join in. If you haven't yet had the opportunity to volunteer, I encourage each of you to participate next year and be part of the community of support for our students.

A huge thank you to our outgoing presidents, Ting Sung and Lucy Balikian and a big cheer for Dana Lee Wong, incoming president for the 2023-24 school year!

I am also looking forward to seeing everyone at our Instrumental Concert, Art Show, and Open House this afternoon! See you all soon!

Another Year of Gratitude

This week, CFA hosted an installation to honor the volunteers who dedicated their time and effort throughout the year. They also welcomed next year's volunteer teams. Thank you everyone for supporting Clairbourn and building a community we all love!

Character Matters

Second grade performed the play, Character Matters, for students from kindergarten to third grade, and to the second grade parents. The cast did an amazing job learning their lines and songs for the play. The witch demanded donuts, Humpty Dumpty learned his lesson, the mirrors learned to duck and the frog transformed into a handsome prince! This production enhances Clairbourn's core values while developing students' confidence and public speaking skills. Bravo, everyone!

Clairbourn Insights

In our middle school Spanish classes, sixth to eighth grade students learned how to make tortillas from scratch. It was an exciting, hands-on experience that allowed the students to discover Spanish culture and the significance of tortillas in Spanish cuisine. The tortillas were delicious!
Fitness Challenge

Stronger together: Achieve fitness goals as
a community!

Special thank you to the Clairbourn PE department for the last few weeks' daily fitness challenge! The community enjoyed accepting the challenge and demonstrating it at morning assembly. Some fun challenges included planks, Superman burpees, wide/close grip push ups and more.

Each week, we focused on a new goal, from cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, flexibility and mobility to core strength. Thank you to our eighth grader Qier for presenting the daily challenges and encouraging everyone with such enthusiasm. Knowing how to relax and stretch is just as important as staying fit. We hope our Cougars remember the variety of challenges and continue to stay fit on their own!
May Drop Everything
and Build Challenge

Third to eighth graders had their May Drop Everything and Build day on May the fourth and were challenged with a Star Wars theme to honor Star Wars day! Young and older students were paired up to build a parachute that would slow the fall of a small Grogu “Baby Yoda” figurine when dropped from the fire escape outside Dr. Patzlaff’s office. The materials were coffee filters, a plastic bag, paper, rubber bands and string. It was a lot of fun collaborating together!

Please join us in congratulating our May Drop and Build winners: In the fourth/fifth and eighth grades, runners-up were Winnie L., Bill W., Louie L.; and the overall winners were Sydney S., Elliot C., Theo W. and Harry D. In the third and seventh grades, runners-up were Anna C., Linda L., Tiffany K., and the winners were Rocky L., Tony H. and Carson P. Lastly, in the second and sixth grades,  runners-up were Angelique G., Aiden E., Lennon C., Anthony M., and the winners were Luna S., Diana L. and Jerry W.
