Let's celebrate Spring with Joyful Songs!

Dear Clairbourn Families,

I am so excited for the Spring Concert (10:30 a.m.) and Fair (11:30 a.m.) this weekend. Rehearsals have been right outside my window all week, so I know you are in for a real treat. This is a great activity for the students because there is a direct correlation between the effort involved and the improvement.  When they practice well, they improve quickly! Way to go, Cougars.

I am also excited about the Fair. The CFA has a great event planned for us all, full of rides and great food options!  Wear sunscreen, bring a hat, and drink lots of water to be sure we all have a great time.

Next week is teacher appreciation week. The school has several things planned to celebrate the teachers and their impact on the students. You too can celebrate the teachers by writing notes of gratitude and sharing your positive experience with them. These notes mean a lot to the teachers!

Wind Power, Design Challenge and More!

In honor of Earth Day and inspired by the second graders’ daily messages last week, the Middle School Drop Everything & Build for April relied on wind power. Students took simple toy car frames and added sails to create a wind-powered car that could go the farthest distance. By testing with fans as they built, students were able to modify and improve their designs over the limited building time.

Here is a list of our April Drop and Build winners:
In the eighth grade, the runners-up were Arthur Z. and Megan L., and the winners were Peter L., Qier W., and Annika L. In the seventh grade, the runners-up were Theo V. and Madeline S., and the winners were Jerry C. and Simon L.  In the sixth grade, the runners-up were Jerry W. and Matthew C., and the winners were Luke M. and Sima S., who built the only wind-powered car that traveled the entire length of the classroom. Congratulations, Cougar engineers!

Auction Highlights

A group of students had a blast at the auction art party with Mrs. Ball, our previous art teacher. They painted and were creative with various materials. It was an afternoon filled with laughter, chatter and the sound of pencils scribbling on paper. Everyone had a great time expressing themselves through art!

Students from kindergarten, first, second, fourth and fifth grades enjoyed their auction class party hanging out with friends and teachers. They played games, enjoyed pizza and watched a movie together. First graders even got to play with Ms. Dezutter's dog, Brigitte, who brought even more joy to their afternoon!

It was an exciting week in Spanish classes! Isabella J., Laksh M. and Malena Z. took over the responsibility as the Spanish teacher. Isabella gave a presentation in Spanish about Mexico. She also shared delicious taquitos with the third grade class. Laksh introduced Spanish treats and played games with the second graders. Malena shared her Spanish heritage and the origin of her last name. She also brought churros for the whole middle school. Gracias, Isabella, Laksh and Malena!

Several parents gathered together for a mochi sweet dumpling-making party with Dr. Patzlaff! As they indulged in the delicious treats, they connected with each other. Thank you to Clairbourn parent, Jessie Zhang, for hosting and teaching us about this culinary art. It's fun to bond over the shared appreciation for food and creativity!

Celebrating all things aquatic!

Our second graders had a field trip to the Long Beach Aquarium. They were mesmerized by the diverse marine life on display, observing the colorful fish, playful sting rays and majestic sharks. The students shared their favorite moments with us at the Morning Assembly. Thank you, second grade!
