Growing Together

Dear Clairbourn Families,

This week was a lot of fun for me! The students are still temporarily displaced from the playground as we solve some surprise issues that came up during the demolition. The good news is, they have a good solution, and the project will continue for another week. The best part of this is watching the creativity of the students as they play in different areas for their recess. The students have been running around outside of my window, laughing, singing, playing, and generally oozing joy. It has sure been fun to watch. I almost don't want them to go back to the playground. But as soon as it is ready, they will certainly love the new surface, new shade umbrellas, and new parts that have gone in.

Progress and improvement are fun to watch in both our students and on our campus!

Class of 2023 Highlights

We Have Traveled a Fun Road TOGETHER!

Third Grade Pioneer
Day, Outdoor Learning and More!

Bringing History to Life

To wrap up the third grade pioneer learning unit, students enjoyed an epic Pioneer Day participating in a range of activities on the field. It was fun and engaging for the students to learn about what life was like for early American settlers and pioneers. The students (AND parents) had a chance to try their hands at some outdoor games and activities which were popular in pioneer times such as jacks, a potato sack race, rolling the hoops, an egg & spoon race and more. What a successful day bringing history to life!

The Joys of Outdoor Learning

Third graders participated in an educational field trip to the Los Angeles Arboretum. Students enjoyed this opportunity to explore the beautiful gardens, learn about various plants and wildlife and experience the joys of outdoor learning. The trip was led by knowledgeable guides who engaged the students with interactive activities and informative presentations.

Congratulations to third grade teacher, Mr. Berglund!

We are delighted to share the news that our third grade teacher Mr. Berglund and his wife are expecting a baby! He received the gender results while on the field trip yesterday and surprised the students at the end of the day with a fun gender reveal. To add a little science to the day, he created a colored solution of baking soda and vinegar to reveal the gender. We can't wait to meet your baby boy!
Clairbourn Insights

Let's see how fifth graders put their science knowledge to work!

Fifth graders learned that chemical reactions create new materials which have useful and interesting properties. Students combined different substances to create "Mystery Goo." They also created a mini explosion in a bag by combining baking soda and vinegar which caused the bags to inflate and sometimes pop!

Preschool Community Helper Learning Project

This week, our preschoolers welcomed an architect, who is also a Clairbourn parent, for a classroom visit as part of their community helper learning project. Ms. Esther spoke to the students about what it means to be an architect and the many contributions architects make to society. She shared stories about some of the buildings and structures she designed, and explained how architects use math, science, and art to create their designs!
Auction Highlights

A group of totally radical sixth and seventh graders gathered in the Manor House for an '80s-themed murder mystery party. Each student took on a persona, such as Alligator Dundee or Nozzy Nosborn, who may be oddly similar to '80s characters and celebrities. Through three rounds of clues the guests discovered who might have the motive and opportunity at this crime scene. The participants were challenged to '80s movie trivia and a bubble-gum blowing contest while enjoying delicious treats provided by our awesome CFA parents.

Fifth grader Keira W. was the Director of Communications and Marketing this Monday! She discussed her ideas at the marketing meeting with Dr. Patzlaff, captured special moments that were happening around the campus and sharpened her photography and photo editing skills to produce a poster that will be displayed on campus! Check out some of Keira's photography above. Well done, Keira!

Student Council

This week, Student Council celebrated College Day with a theme dress day and some fun activities.

These activities raise awareness of the many colleges and universities throughout California and the rest of the United States, showing our students the possibilities for their future. In Morning Assemblies, Student Council  hosted fun rounds of "Guess the Mascot." Teachers were also invited to have their classes decorate their classroom doors with the college(s) they attended!

Earth Day

At Morning Assembly this week, second graders reminded us of the importance of doing our part and working for a better earth and a better tomorrow. Happy Earth Day, everyone! Let's make the earth greener and happier.

First Graders Build a Bunny Burrow

The first grade participated in a design challenge to build a burrow to protect a bunny from the spring rain.

The bunny had to be able to enter and leave the burrow. Students were given a variety of materials including aluminum foil, wax paper, plastic wrap, toilet paper rolls, unifix cubes, pipe cleaners and construction paper. They worked in small groups and everyone did a great job while engaging with each other!

Celebrate Friendship on Saturday, April 29
