Making Progress and Improvement

Dear Clairbourn Families,

Over spring break there was a lot of activity on campus. Our maintenance crew was incredibly busy making many improvements including new outdoor class space at our fourth and fifth-grade classrooms. Pavers and artificial turf on one side and a deck on the other.

Another improvement is the replacement of the surfaces of our two playgrounds and large umbrellas to create shade for the Randall Hall playground. The initial plan was to have it finished by yesterday. Unfortunately, we had a few snags and the completion date has been delayed. I'm so grateful the teachers and students are flexible and enjoy having recess in different areas while we extend this project. The good news is when we are finished the playground will be a greatly improved place for all to play. Thanks to all who supported this project.

Clairbourn Insights

As our preschool students began their community service project, they welcomed a policeman, who is also a Clairbourn parent, to their classroom. Mr. Jason Chien engaged the children in a discussion about safety and demonstrated some of the tools and equipment he uses in his job. In addition to the educational benefits, this special visit inspired a sense of civic pride and encouraged children to think about ways they can contribute to their community. Stay tuned to see who they will welcome next!

Nancy Shiershke was a successful artist and a long-time supporter of Clairbourn School. She is known for her stunning floral watercolor paintings. Nancy Shiershke recently passed away and to celebrate her contribution as an artist and educator, we are displaying her artwork in the Manor House starting Monday, April 17. All artwork is for sale and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Clairbourn. For all who are interested, you can bring the paintings to the reception office for purchase. You will also be able to shop at next Friday's community coffee.

Clairbourn Experiences Build School Community

Buddy experiences between younger and older students build school community and confidence in kids.

Special thank you to our Student Council for sponsoring a buddy-bonding experiences! Younger students enjoyed pairing up with older students for a fun Friday afternoon buddy scavenger hunt! Everyone loved connecting with each other and searching for clues. What a way to promote a sense of community, inclusivity, positive relationships and a supportive environment for all involved. It sure made us smile when we heard the children's laughter filling the campus!
Auction Highlights

Brother and sister duo Shalom and Xenia L. took over the responsibility as the PE teachers for the day. They inspired and motivated students from fourth to eighth grade. They introduced new games and activities and encouraged students to work together as a team. Thank you to Mrs. DeVasto and Mr. Ball for this opportunity for students to learn how to stay physically active and lead healthy lifestyles!

Preschoolers loved their Lego party and were fascinated by the endless possibilities for building and creating. Whether they were constructing a simple tower or a complex spaceship, these young children were fully engaged in the activity, using their imaginations and developing their fine motor skills. They also loved bonding with their friends and sharing their creations!

Clairbourn Life

Do you know middle school runs snack shops? Students enjoyed snack shop days to connect with their peers while getting a treat during their busy school day!

Kindergarteners learned about the life cycle of butterflies. They observed the metamorphosis from a caterpillar to a butterfly and participated in a hands-on experience by releasing the butterflies into their natural habitat. Students were curious, asked many questions, and loved learning about science and nature.

Animal Adaptation: Learning Through Experimenting

Our first graders studied animal adaptations and how animals survive in different climates. Students learned how whales use their blubber to survive the cold.

They experienced this by putting their hands in buckets of ice cold water! One hand was protected by the "blubber" which was Crisco shortening, while the other hand was not. Students quickly realized the hand protected by the "blubber" was warm and the hand not protected by the "blubber" was freezing. Keep on staying curious, Cougars!

Clairbourn Summer Sports Camp

Join Coach Ball this summer at the Clairbourn Summer Sports Camp where your child will participate in a variety of athletic activities. After a series of activities to improve their sports skills, students will have swim lessons in the pool and play fun-filled swim games with their peers.

Celebrating #42 on Jackie Robertson Day this Saturday!

Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier when he became the first African American to play in Major League Baseball. His enormous talent helped the Brooklyn Dodgers win six pennants and one World Series Championship. The ultimate honor was bestowed on him when he was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962.

In 1997, MLB retired his uniform number 42 across all major league teams. Jackie Robertson was the first professional athlete in any sport to be so honored. MLB adopted a new annual tradition, "Jackie Robinson Day", for the first time on April 15, 2004. Now on April 16 every year, all players, coaches and managers on both teams wear Robinson's uniform number 42.

On February 18 1999, the U.S. Postal Service issued a Jackie Robinson stamp as part of their “Celebrate the Century” program. Robinson was selected to represent the 1940s, the second ballplayer chosen after Babe Ruth.

Jackie Robinson’s contributions go far beyond the baseball. He dedicated himself to improve the quality of life not only for African Americans, but for society as a whole. He is a great example of how to be a scholar and leader with a big HEART!
