Dear Clairbourn Families,

Tonight is the final show for the CAST production of the Seussification of Romeo and Juliette (Dr. Seuss style). It is at 6 p.m. and is only $10 per ticket. It runs just over 30 minutes so come join us for the final show tonight!

The following is my review from the opening night:

I was delighted to see the opening day
Performers were great - had so much to say

I laughed and I laughed throughout the whole show
The actors were funny, I want you to know

The costumes were clever and the dialogue witty
If you miss this production it would be such a pity

They fought with foam swords and all in slow-mo
There is something for everyone so come to the show!

Throughout third quarter, our students worked diligently to master new concepts and skills to the best of their abilities. They learned to seek help when needed, collaborated with peers, and pushed themselves to achieve new goals. Special gratitude to our dedicated teachers for putting great effort into providing engaging classrooms and supporting student learning. We look forward to the final quarter of the school year with positive energy and great optimism for what lies ahead!

Recognizing the hard work and dedication of our talented musicians and athletes

Our students continue to refine their musical techniques and expand their athletic abilities. For this track and field season, both A and B track teams demonstrated heart in their running events and strength in their field events. Our athletes pushed themselves to compete and perform with many having their personal bests.

We want to celebrate the following athletes for their willingness to try new events with a positive attitude and to constantly work toward new goals.

Loving the Unknown

Pre-Algebra students performed a ball drop math lab in order to investigate slope. They dropped baseballs, tennis balls and bouncy balls from various heights and used slow motion recordings to collect data on the height of each initial bounce. Students created tables, graphs and equations to analyze their data (drop height vs. bounce height) for each different type of ball. What do you think they discovered? The slope for each ball is how much higher the ball bounces for each additional foot added of drop height.

The eighth graders created a board game about the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Students played each other's games to learn more about the different topics. Seventh graders worked in groups to produce beautiful life-sized samurai drawings as an end project to their unit on ancient Japanese civilizations. They learned the samurai's Bushido and wrote a haiku about a famous battle. They also studied the social hierarchy in ancient Japan. Great job, Cougars!

March Drop Everything & Build Day

For the month of March, middle school students were challenged to drop everything and build the tallest free-standing stairs from two pieces of card stock and only thirty centimeters of tape.  The structures needed to have at least ten stair steps that were parallel to the ground. Although many teams found themselves racing against the clock to ensure their staircases could stand on their own, all our middle schoolers worked hard to build the tallest staircase they could!

In the seventh grade, the runners-up were Isabelle W. and Asal E., and the winners were Madeline S. and Valen S. In the eighth grade, the runners-up were Nathan G. and Louie L., and the winners were Annika L. and Harry D. In the sixth grade, the runners-up were Bella R. and Lennon C., and the winners were Jerry W. and Melody K., who were the overall winners in the middle school. Well done, Cougar engineers!

LA Zoo Field Trip

First graders and parent chaperones braved the rain and took on the LA Zoo for their field trip. The day started with a rainbow for good luck and a little drizzle didn’t stop everyone from enjoying their time exploring the animals.

This field trip experience provides an opportunity to see animals in their natural environment. Students impressed all the docents/tour guides with their extensive knowledge about different animals. You are all Scholars and Leaders with Heart!

March is Women's History Month

Since 1995, March has been designated as Women’s History Month. Student Council prepares weekly presentations about the accomplishments of notable women. Here are a few stories and the inspiration they have brought to us!

Michelle Obama is an attorney and author who served as the first lady of the United States from 2009 to 2017 as the wife of President Barack Obama. She was the first African-American woman to serve in this position.

Clara Barton was a nurse who founded the American Red Cross. She was a hospital nurse in the American Civil War, a teacher and a patent clerk. Since nursing education was not formalized at that time and since she did not attend nursing school, she provided self-taught nursing care.

Katherine Johnson was a mathematician whose calculations of orbital mechanics as a NASA employee were critical to the success of the first and subsequent U.S.- crewed spaceflights.
