So Much to Look Forward To

Dear Clairbourn Families,

This week we reached 100% participation in our Annual Fund! This is a huge milestone for our community. All Annual Fund donations are used to support our students. The Annual Fund pays for iPads and cases, field trips and busses, the drama program for our middle school, specialist classes and supplies, musical instruments, and many other classroom needs. These things make a huge difference in the lives of the students.

Think about the excitement the students have when they come home from school with things they have made in the iLab. Think about the sense of accomplishment when the students master a new song on their instrument after
weeks of practicing. Think about the stories the students tell us when they come back from a field trip having experienced something firsthand. All of this is possible because of you! Thanks for your support of our students. And thanks to our Annual Fund Chairs and Captains who encourage giving and helped families understand the importance of the Annual Fund! GO CLAIRBOURN!!

Please remember the
re-enrollment agreements and deposits are due tomorrow. Thank you to all of the families who have completed the forms. It is important that we have these agreements in by the deadline so we know how many of our applicant families to accept. We have a wonderful group of students applying for spots at Clairbourn next year.  Without the agreement and deposit, we can't hold your spot, so please get the agreements signed now by going into CourgarNet and completing the forms and deposit!

We can't wait for another great year with you!

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the special guests for taking the time to visit our school and their children on Mothers and Grandparents Visiting Day. Your presence made a lasting impact on our students, and they appreciated the opportunity to share their school experience with you. Thank you for being an important part of their education and for helping to shape their future!

Sharing the Love for Literature Through Meaningful Connection!

The eighth graders were thrilled at the opportunity to bond with the preschoolers by reading to them the books they wrote and illustrated in eighth grade Spanish class! The older students were excited to share their stories and be a positive influence for the preschoolers.

The excitement was palpable as the eighth graders approached the preschool classroom, ready to make meaningful connections with the younger students. The smiles on everyone's faces were a true testament to our Clairbourn education!
Pocket Change Drive

The Door of Hope Service Learning Project Has Some Exciting News!

A parent has volunteered to match the money raised for our Pocket Change Drive! That means all of our contributions will be doubled! Please bring your coins and bills to morning transportation to show your support for our second graders! Tomorrow is the last day! Thank you!

Tiger Woods, born December 30, 1975, is a professional golfer and entrepreneur. He took an early interest in golf. He practiced up to 13 hours per day. His dedication teaches us hard work pays off. Since turning professional in 1996, Tiger has had an unprecedented competitive career. His achievements on the course – 106 worldwide wins and 15 majors – have mirrored his success off the course as well. Tiger Woods started the TGR foundation to support community-based programs that improve the health, education, and well-being of all children in America. He is an inspiring example of a scholar with heart.

Bessie Coleman, born January 26, 1892, was the first African-American female pilot. When she applied to flight school in America, she was rejected due to her race and gender. Instead of giving up, she approached flight schools in France. She had to learn French by taking night classes. Bessie earned her international pilot’s license at the age of 29. Her perseverance, bravery, and determination show she was a leader with heart.

First Graders Work on Public Speaking Skills

At Clairbourn, public speaking begins at a young age. Students not only attend Morning Assembly, but they also demonstrate their abilities in their classrooms on a daily basis.

This week, first graders shared their favorite book with their classmates. Each student wrote a review, illustrated artwork for the book, delivered a presentation in front of the class, and answered questions from their peers. What a fantastic experience!

Clairbourn Life

We had a great community coffee last Friday! Parents came together to connect and collaborate. It was exciting to see so many parents attending and catching up with one another. Thanks for joining us!

February 14 is a Valentine's Day theme dress day! Please come to school with clothes and accessories for Valentine's Day or wear your regular uniform. Here are some fun Valentine jokes:

What kind of flowers should you NOT give on Valentine’s Day? Cauliflowers!

What did one volcano say to the other? I lava you!

Why do skunks love  Valentine’s Day? They are very scent-imental creatures.

Goal Achieved, Because of You!

We Have 100% Family Participation in Our
Annual Fund!

Thank you to each and every family for contributing to our Annual Fund and making Clairbourn a priority in your charitable giving. Reaching 100% is a vote of confidence from all of you and a sign you support our mission of Creating Scholars and Leaders with Heart. Thank you for believing in Clairbourn and making an impact in our students' education!

Postal Service Learning Unit in Kindergarten

This week, the Blue and Gold Dragonfly Post Office, modeled after the actual Postal Service, opened! Students practiced math by counting money as cashiers and they practiced number recognition by sorting. They worked together to improve their motor skills and gain service learning experience. Kindergarten students also created Valentine's Day cards for their classmates.

Every day, our postal workers processed 45 pieces of mail! The post office will remain open until tomorrow morning!

Groundhog Day

Our JPK and kindergarten students learned about Groundhog Day last week! It is a popular North American tradition observed in the United States and Canada on February 2. It derives from the Pennsylvania Dutch superstition that if a groundhog emerges from its burrow on this day and sees its shadow, winter will go on for six more weeks. If it does not see its shadow, spring will arrive early.

Next time you see a JPK or kindergarten student on campus, ask them about what they observed on Groundhog Day!

Celebrating the Month of Love

Valentine's Day has a rich history that dates back to ancient Rome. It was originally celebrated as a pagan festival called Lupercalia in mid-February, which honored the god of fertility, Lupercus, and the beginning of spring.

In the early 5th century, Pope Gelasius declared February 14 as St. Valentine's Day, in honor of a Christian martyr named Valentine who was imprisoned for performing marriages for soldiers who were forbidden to marry. Over time, the holiday evolved to become a celebration of love and affection between partners, friends, and family members.

The name Valentine comes from a Latin word meaning “strength.” Don't forget to show your acts of kindness and love to those around you! We are proud of our Cougars' big hearts!
