School Resumes 1/7

Enjoy your holiday break! School will resume on Tuesday, January 7, 2020. See you soon!

Clairbourn Holiday Concert – Let it Snow!

The “Let it Snow!” holiday concert opened with instrumental music by the Clairbourn Band and Clairbourn String Ensemble followed by choirs comprised of Preschool through Grade 5 students. They performed heart-warming songs about snow including, “When the Snow Comes Down in Tinseltown” by Hillary Duff, “Winter Wonderland” by Felix Bernard and Richard B. Smith, “Little Snowflake” by Troy McDonald and Devon Thagard, and even “Frosty, the Snowman” by Walter “Jack” Rollins and Steve Nelson.  Students helped to make some of the stage decorations in their art classes by cutting out snowflakes and constructing paper snowmen, and for the main performance they added to the festive theme by wearing their best holiday outfits.

Music Director Rosemary Kiertzner and violin teacher Ann Mize did a tremendous job of showcasing the students’ talents, and along with the singers and musicians, they all delivered a fabulous performance filled with holiday fun and cheer.

A special thank you also goes to Facilities Director Ryan Morehouse for coordinating the stage setup and the lights, art teacher Hayley Ball for the paper decorations, parent Jessie Zhang (and her mother) for the balloon decorations, and sixth-grader Irene Xue for the show program artwork. Many parents have expressed gratitude and enjoyment for the special evening. On Clairbourn's behalf, we thank you for attending and for giving your time to share the holiday joy.

Wesley C. Performs As The Concertmaster

Fourth-grader Wesley C. performed with the Colburn School of Music “Violin Ensemble” as the Concertmaster on Wednesday, December 11. The Violin Ensemble is an entry level group for the Community School of Performing Arts pre-college orchestra program. The program introduces students as young as 8 years old to orchestral performance techniques, develops musicianship, and reinforces music theory and reading skills. Approximately 24 musicians are accepted each year through an audition process and Wesley has been a member for the past two years. Watch Wesley's three pieces below.

Arthur And Kevin Z.'s Many Achievements

Fifth-grader Arthur Z.'s soccer club team, F.C. Golden State, won 1st place in the CSL (Coast Soccer League) championship. Arthur was the top scorer of the season!

Arthur and his brother, eighth-grader Kevin Z., have been volunteering at the Temple City Library to host Chess Meetup for the past three years. They started playing chess at the age of 5, and now they enjoy teaching younger children the game. This is their thoughtful way to give back to the community. Last Thursday, December 12, they held the last event of the year. Arthur and Kevin prepared 20 gifts to give to the children who attended. They received very positive feedback and high praises from children, parents, and librarians for their continuous efforts and dedication.

On Saturday, December 14, Kevin competed at SCJFL (Southern California Junior Forensics League) #2 Debate Tournament. Kevin won 2nd place for Public Forum Top Speaker out of 64 competitors.
