Waiver Application & What's Involved
Dear Clairbourn Families,
We are in the process of applying for a K-2 waiver.
Part of this process requires parent participation in a survey. This survey will be sent to the JPK-2 parents to gauge their comfort in returning to campus. If you have a student in these grades, please check your email and respond to the short survey. We really need to know where everyone stands. We support each family’s personal decision to select the option that feels most right for them.
In speaking with other schools in the area, many are using the waiver to bring the students back to campus for short, targeted, social-emotional activities. They are also planning to bring students in the allowed grades back in a methodical and thoughtful manner. This is also the approach that we are taking. We started by bringing back a small group of students with specific needs.
The health department came to campus this week and inspected our procedures and preparations. They only had two suggestions which we have already taken steps to correct. One was to put signage in the bathrooms to remind people to wash hands correctly. The other was to put our Reopening Protocols and Exposure Management Plan in a binder in the front office for anyone to see if they choose. They found everything else was in order, and this tells us we can apply for the waiver. When the waiver is approved, we will do a slow and careful transition to having students on campus.
One of the questions from the previous survey asked what protocols will look like for the return to campus. All parents will need to download the Magnus Health App in order to be able to complete the daily health screening. (Specific instructions will be sent out on how to do this.) Completing this form on Magnus will give the family an approval to come to campus.
When students arrive at school, they will stay in their vehicle and wait for Mr. Jubilado, or another employee, to greet them, check the Magnus App for their daily health screening approval, and then take the temperature of the child. If the temperature is in the acceptable range, the student will get out of the car, use the hand sanitizer at the front gate, and proceed to class while keeping six foot spacing distance from any other students. At the doorway for each classroom, there are hand sanitizers which will be used upon entry.
Parents will not be allowed on campus in order to keep the number of people on campus to an acceptable level.
We are asking our whole community: parents, students, and employees to all follow the health recommendations laid out by the health department. This is the best way to help us all move up into LA County's next less-restrictive tier of their reopening framework.
Thanks for your support,
Amy Patzlaff, Ed.D.

Spooky Fun in Grade 7
A Drive Through Trick-or-Treat Event
How do you celebrate Halloween in the middle of a pandemic? The Clairbourn kids and families came up with a safe plan: a drive-through trick-or-treat! Families had five stops where they were greeted with Halloween treats. The kids were scary and the atmosphere was spooky! Most of the 7th grade kids participated in the event since they've been apart for six months due to the lockdown. New students were especially happy to see the classmates they've only gotten to know on screen. Everyone had a great time from their cars, and these snapshots capture the excitement of a very special Halloween from 2020.
