From Head of School

We Are Proud Of You, Cougars!

Dear Clairbourn Families,

This week we distributed certificates to our Middle School students who earned academic honors for the first quarter. Many students earned a place on the Honor Roll with a grade point of 3.5 or higher and satisfactory citizenship. Many others earned a place on the Head of School list with a 4.0 and satisfactory citizenship. We are proud of these accomplishments as they both represent a sustained quarter-long effort. Students get a fresh start each quarter to set new goals and work to achieve them. It is exciting to see the progress and subsequent success of these students!

We are just as excited to celebrate the success of the elementary students in their progress and achievements during the first quarter. They also have been working hard to learn new skills and strategies. It is great to see these efforts paying off and students learning to read more fluently, calculate with greater confidence, and problem solve with creativity. They also are learning to work with each other in stronger ways, resolve differences, and listen to new ideas with open minds.

On conference day, you will all have a chance to hear about these successes and also what areas for growth are available for your child to make even more progress.

Well done, one and all!

Amy Patzlaff, Ed.D.

Clairbourn Insights

Have you wondered what a typical school day looks like at Clairbourn?

Let us take you around the campus to witness what a typical school day looks like!! There was a lot of curiosity in the Middle School science lab. Students' laughter echoed throughout the playground during recess when they strengthened their physical ability. Kindergarteners learned how to team up for STEM projects. Students shared gratitude for their teachers. Music filled the campus in the afternoon. Sports teams cheered for each other at the after school games and more.

Wouldn't you agree a typical school day at Clairbourn is simply pure joy? Hope it brings you smiles!

Student Council

Clairbourn continues celebrating the rich and
diverse culture, traditions, and contributions of Native Americans.

Student Council is highlighting different Indigenous stories and culture throughout November.
Let's listen to their presentations on Sitting Bull and Jerry Elliott this week:

Sitting Bull
Hunkpapa Lakota Leader

Sitting Bull was the political and spiritual leader of the Sioux warriors who defeated General George Armstrong Custer's army in the famous battle of Little Big Horn. The courage he showed in battle and the compassion he displayed when he protected the women and children at Little Bighorn River proves that Sitting Bull was truly a leader with heart.

Jerry Elliott
Physicist

Jerry Elliott (High Eagle) is a physicist and was one of the first Native Americans to work at NASA. He is most known for his contribution as the lead retrofire officer during Apollo 13, where his actions saved the lives of the three astronauts on board. Elliott's work awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom which is the highest civilian honor awarded by the President.

Thank you, Student Council!

Clairbourn Gift Policy

Gratitude is always welcome, but a gift is
never necessary.
A kind note, a genuine thank you, or a word of gratitude is always meaningful.

Clairbourn has a newly-stated gift policy for all employees:

• Employees may only accept gifts and/or gift cards that have a value of $100 or less.

• Employees may accept a gift and/or gift card of over $100 only if it is a collective gift and each individual’s contribution is $100 or less (i.e. the Scrip Gift at the holidays and end of the year).

Please help us by following this policy. If you feel you must do more than the note or word of thanks, please consider contributing to the group Scrip gifts at the holidays and at the end of the year. Please do not put any employees in an awkward situation by ignoring the policy.

If an employee receives something of higher value, it must be returned or given to the CFA for the auction. Thank you for your support!

Clairbourn Honors Veterans

Yesterday Student Council delivered hand-made cards for the veterans who live across the street in the Sunrise Assisted Living Home in San Marino. Some veterans served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. They were delighted to receive the messages and gratitude from Clairbourn students.

To all the veterans,
we thank you for your service.
