Clairbourn Gratitude

Dear Clairbourn Families,

In the month of November, we often focus more on gratitude. I have been asking students about their gratitude for different things each day, and they make me smile from ear to ear. The genuine love, respect, and appreciation are amazing. I love to hear their view on the world and the good they are able to see so easily. What a great example for all of us.

Sometimes, expressing gratitude is associated with gift giving, so I want to bring your attention to our gift policy. No Clairbourn employee may accept a gift from an individual worth more than $100. Large gifts, although thoughtful and generous, can be seen as a conflict of interest and cause issues. Therefore, we are requiring any gift to an employee to be a small token of appreciation or be part of a group gift. The group scrip gifts are a perfect way to show appreciation without having the perception of impropriety. Please see the statement below for more information. Thank you for following these guidelines and not putting the teachers in a difficult situation.

On the COVID news front, the vaccine has now been approved for 5-11 year-old students. We are strongly encouraging all students to get vaccinated as soon as possible to protect both them and the community. The 12-year-olds will be required to be vaccinated by the time they return in January, so plan ahead to ensure this is done.  Thanks for keeping our community as safe as possible.

Clairbourn Students Celebrated the Rich and Diverse Culture and Traditions of Dia de Los Muertos!

Our Lower School students in Mrs. Rubio’s kindergarten to fifth grade classes learned new words through songs, explored the colorful Hispanic culture, created papel picado (cut paper) to decorate their classroom, tasted the pan de muerto and decorated the skeleton cookies while calling out each color in Spanish!

Middle School students in Mrs. Drazic’s class read the book Tumba. Students learned about the significance of calaveras (skulls), esqueletos (skeletons) and cempasúchil (marigold flowers) as they constructed an altar in the classroom. The best part was having Lower School students visiting the Middle School and seeing the altar those students built! It is wonderful to see students make their own cultural connections while learning about this tradition.

Student Council

November is Native American Heritage Month

Clairbourn is celebrating the rich and diverse culture, traditions, and contributions of Native Americans by highlighting different Indigenous stories and culture throughout November. Celebrate with us by listening to our presentations throughout the month of November. This week, Student Council featured Sharice Davids and Wes Studi:

Wes Studi
Native American Actor

Besides his long acting career, he has helped raise money for pandemic relief for Native Americans, as well as keeping Native American traditions alive by teaching
the Cherokee language at Eastern University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. His contributions show his leadership with heart to his people and our country.

Sharice Davids
United States Congress Member of Kansas

Representative Davids was raised by a single mother who served in the Army for 20 years! She understands the importance of quality education and health care for everyday Americans. One of her most important feats is becoming one of the first two Native American women to serve in Congress!

Thank you, Student Council!

Clairbourn Gift Policy

Gratitude is always welcome, but a gift is
never necessary.
A kind note, a genuine thank you, or a word of gratitude is always meaningful.

Clairbourn has a newly stated gift policy for all employees:

• Employees may only accept gifts and/or gift cards that have a value of $100 or less.

• Employees may accept a gift and/or gift card of over $100 only if it is a collective gift and each individual’s contribution is $100 or less (i.e. the Scrip Gift at the holidays and end of the year).

Please help us by following this policy. If you feel you must do more than the note or word of thanks, please consider contributing to the group Scrip gifts at the holidays and at the end of the year. Please do not put any employees in an awkward situation by ignoring the policy.

If an employee receives something of higher value, it must be returned or given to the CFA for the auction. Thank you for your support!

Last Day For Operation Gratitude

Please drop off your candy by the end of today. Halloween candy is a nice donation for military members and first responders because it reminds them of home since they might not get to spend the holidays with their family and friends.

Thank you for helping us support Operation Gratitude!
