Full Of Gratitude

Dear Clairbourn Families,

Thank you for the growing support of our Book Fair. It has been so fun to see the astronaut greet us each morning. It has been a great source of joy for the students and parents alike. Thanks also for the purchase of the Book Fair shirts and masks. I have mine ready to wear on our special Book Fair Shirt days! Thanks also for the donations to support our library through the Book Fair. The generosity is amazing, and the support of our readers makes a huge difference.

This week we saw our sports team compete against other schools. It felt so good to see our students making progress, honing or acquiring skills, supporting each other, and demonstrating good sportsmanship. That is certainly showing heart.

As I go through the week, it is the little things that make such a difference. It is so easy to get caught up in routine and not even notice the good that is happening around us all the time. I have been making a special effort to see the good and acknowledge it. Yesterday I saw one example of a little thing that made my day. One of our younger siblings, a toddler, was walking onto campus through the gate. His mom had stopped to talk to me and the toddler was a few steps ahead when he tipped a bit and sat down on the ground (he was totally fine, by the way). From around the corner, I saw an arm in a blue Middle School sweatshirt reach out and take the tiny hand to help him up.
When I looked, I saw one of our Middle School boys naturally, and without prompting, help out the little guy. It made my day to see the natural instincts of our students come out in such a sweet and tender way. I hope it makes you smile too!

Happy long weekend!
Be sure to have some fun on your extra day.

Teamwork. Hardwork. Cougar Spirits!

The boys A and B flag football teams competed this week against Chandler and High Point. This was the first game for both teams. They were excited to put into action all their hard work from practice.

The B team played well in their first game. Presley made some great throws at the quarterback position helping move the ball down field. Shogo and Damien did well hiking the ball and blocking. Mauricio scored a touchdown by running downfield cutting hard and spinning around defenders. The team is excited to get back to practice and sharpen their skills before their next game. It is so great to see our Cougar's dedication and commitment! Well done!

Our A team had many highlights from the games against Chandler: Joshua coordinating the offense from the quarterback position. He helped move the team downfield by throwing the ball through the air and using his legs to get the first down. Vincent played an important role blocking and going out for passes. Marcel and Cole both made an incredible catch playing the wide receiver position. On defense Nicholas was relentless pulling the opposing teams flags along with Alex, Rodrigo, Carlos and Zachary. William played well on offense and defense, never slowing down and always doing his best. Darrel saved a touchdown from being converted when he swiped the ball out of the air. The team played with energy and excitement.

Special thank you to our biggest cheerleaders
— Our Clairbourn Parents!!

For the game against High Point,
Clairbourn played exceptionally well, putting up 20 points on the score board and had a tie with High Point. Each athlete on the team played their position well which gave us an opportunity to score many points. On defense, Clairbourn athletes were quick and agile pulling flags and knocking the ball out of the air. The game was a great success and our team will continue their hard work and looks forward to building more skills for their final game of the season next week!

The Volleyball A and B teams have competed against Westridge, Chandler and High Point (A team). Our Cougars showed great spirit, teamwork, effort and lots of hard work. Each player made rapid progress, further developed their skill, and continued to encourage teammates.

Some of our Lady Cougars Highlights are Vittoria's serving, Zoe's spikes, and Qier's great tip at the net!. Many of our players dived to the balls without any hesitation to avoid letting the ball hit the ground and had a long rally lasting several rounds. Volleyball season will wrap up next Friday with games at Poly. We are proud of you, Cougars!

Wellness Focus

Middle School Wellness Focus

The physical and emotional well being of our Middle School students was the core of our Wellness Focus. Students from six to eighth grades attended talks from Dr. Marguery Lyvers and talked freely about their anxiety. Students learned different ways to manage the pressure to do well at school and home.

Besides physical health, Clairbourn cares deeply for the other vital aspects of wellness — social, spiritual, intellectual, and emotional. Our faculty not only addresses students about their wellness on a daily basis, but they also practice activities that will help the students release their anxiety and simulate their personal wellness at the same time.

Middle School Parent Wellness Focus: Parenting Your Stressed-Out
Middle Schooler

Dr. Lyvers will give a talk for Middle School parents tonight Oct. 7, 6 - 7 pm, virtually on a Zoom meeting. Parents of Middle School students are encouraged to attend the meeting to learn about ways they can support their children as they navigate the pressures of being a teenager and the expectations both school and home place on them. Hope to see you all in Zoom tonight!
Art Around Our Campus

Symmetry. Paint & Drip. Monochromatic. Collage. Creativity!

Fourth grade did an excellent job imagining and creating their own symmetrical insects. Students started by learning about bugs and observing their symmetries and colors. Using those observations as their principles, fourth graders designed their own insects using black pen for sketching and metallic watercolors for painting. The insects were cut out and displayed so it looks like they are crawling up the wall! What a great way to expand your creativity, Cougars!

Middle School students worked on several art projects this quarter! They created intricate designs in contrasting patterns to produce a lace-like effect for their paper lace project! Students studied value, tints, and shades, then applied their knowledge by creating a monochromatic artwork. Cougars were further challenged to select editorial clippings and expand their imaginations to sketch out the rest of the images!

Last but not least, the "Paint Drip Mural" project: Based on the work of muralist Jen Stark, the students created drip paintings to contribute to a collaborative mural. They drew lines to mimic dripping paint. The artwork was installed overlapping so that it looks like the whole wall is covered in wet paint.

What an amazing journey in the world of creativity!

Student Council

Thank you to Student Council for preparing a series of helpful and educational presentations on Hispanic Heritage Month. It has been a celebration!

This observation began as a one week celebration in 1968 by President Lyndon B. Johnson. In 1988, the celebration was expanded to a 30-day period by President Ronald Reagan. September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for many Latin American countries including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. The goal of this heritage month is to educate people and celebrate the stories of the culturally rich Hispanic Americans who make up a significant part of our nation's population.

Let's hear from the Student Council's last two presentations:
