Grades K-8 Updates

Dear Clairbourn Family,

Time seems to have a different pace these days.  I started this update for families yesterday, but today we have much different picture.  Regardless of our own personal feelings about the decision, we now know what we will be doing.

At a noon press conference today, Governor Newsom spelled out the requirements for schools to be on campus or remote in the fall. The decisions are being driven by the data in each area, and we are in an area with troubling COVID numbers.  For more information, follow this link to the LA County Department of Public Health.

Although we all would love nothing more than a full return to school on campus, this isn’t the situation for right now.  Clairbourn has been preparing for this possibility along with many others, so we are ready to provide a full program in a remote learning form.  Clairbourn’s summer plans already include many opportunities for our teachers to get extra training on remote learning tools that we will be able to use.

We are prepared with a rigorous, engaging, remote learning program for our K-8 students.  We have purchased additional technology so all K-8 students will have their own iPad, managed by the school, already loaded with the apps they will need to navigate our learning program.   A full Remote Learning Plan will be posted later in the month.  Watch your email for updates.

At the same time we are preparing for remote learning, we are also planning for our eventual return to campus with information on those plans available as we get closer to that possibility.

I know that for some who live with high risk factors, this comes as a great relief. For others who are struggling with a need for child care, this causes additional challenges. None of us volunteered for this situation, and each of us are experiencing it differently.  Someone said, “We are all in the same storm, but we are in different boats.” Regardless of your current situation, Clairbourn stands ready to support your child’s education and celebrate our wonderful community.

So for now, stay strong, and know you are valued members of the Clairbourn Family.
