Moving Ahead & Much to Look Forward To!
Dear Clairbourn Families,
I am still thinking about the happy day we all had on Saturday, celebrating friendship, community, and joy. In my view, it was a great success all the way around. A huge thanks to Mrs. Kiertzner, Mr. Morehouse, Mr. Lim, Dr. Shieh, Mrs. Sung, our sponsors, and all of the other volunteers who generously gave of their time and energy to make it so happy and successful. Well done, one and all!
I am also very happy to see so many families adjusting their schedules to arrive by 8am. Starting Monday, we need all students to be in their classrooms or appointed meeting locations by 8am so we can start our in-person Morning Assembly on time. I am looking forward to having the students all meet together for these last few weeks.
I am also looking forward to our upcoming Instrumental Concert, Open House, and Art Show. It is a great way to see what has been going on in the classes and celebrate together the result of a lot of work and growth.
I can't wait to see you all then!

Clairbourn Families Association (CFA)
Thank you to everyone who came out to support our Spring Carnival this year.
Dear Clairbourn Families,
It is our first in-person event for the 2022 year and it did not disappoint. There were many smiling faces from both students and parents, enjoying the carnival and having a great time reconnecting with new and old families. It was an event to remember.
On behalf of CFA and parents of Clairbourn, we wanted to say thank you to our carnival chair Jonathan Lim for bringing so much happiness to our children with such a wonderful event. It takes a whole village to plan such a successful event. Thank you, John Shieh for all the nights of staying up late to help us make revisions to our carnival layouts. Thank you, Ryan Morehouse and his team for working tirelessly supporting our vision. Thank you, Jessie Zhang for helping us decorate while on crutches. Thank you, to all the volunteers who came in early to set up and help staff Cougar Corner.

Lower and Middle School Students Engaged in Science Labs!
The human lung is a vital organ that allows us to breathe. It was so inspiring to witness students from fifth grade and middle school using balloons to build a model of a human lung and studying the human respiratory system.
Fifth graders also investigated the alchemists’ claim of transforming ordinary metals into gold. Students used a vinegar, salt, and penny solution to copper plate a steel nail. The sixth graders simulated nonexplosive eruptions. By using different colors of play dough and tracing the path of repeated eruptions, students observed how shield volcanoes develop their distinct wide and gently sloping shape. Well done, Cougars!

Auction Item Highlights
Four students from fourth and fifth grades enjoyed an outing with Ms. Edwards and Mrs. Gier to Color Me Mine. They had a fun afternoon painting pottery and catching up with each other. The fourth graders went for a Star Wars pottery theme, while the fifth graders did an animal theme. What a relaxing activity to enjoy together after a busy day at school!
Winnie L. from third grade enjoyed spending time with Mrs. Cogswell and learning about the responsibilities of the front reception office. She greeted the students in the morning, worked with Mrs. Cogswell, and she even got to answer some calls! Well done, Winnie!
Fifth grader Malena Z. was the Head of School last Thursday! She greeted students at morning transportation with Dr. Patzlaff, toured classrooms, worked on recording, and had lunch and ice cream at the Manor House! Students enjoyed her decree of bring-your-plush-to-school day. Thank you, Malena!
Middle school teachers delivered drinks for the middle school students who purchased a special drink from Starbucks during nutrition. Yum and thank you, teachers!

Kindergarten Cross-Curricular Service Learning Project
Our kindergarten classes finished a can and plastic bottle drive as their service learning project to help the Los Angeles Beekeepers Association. They collected almost 2,000 cans and bottles to help with honey bee research and education. This unique service learning project not only taught the students how to care for our environment, but also challenged their math, science, and art skills! From creating posters and collection boxes and learning about the importance of bees, to collecting and counting plastic bottles, our Cougars did a great job involving the whole community.
The kindergarteners enjoyed meeting the representatives from the Los Angeles Beekeepers Association. They were most excited to observe the beehive and see the smoker. They even got to see the queen laying her eggs! Next time when you see a kindergartener, ask them what a beehive smells like!
Did you know?
Bees have five eyes. Male bees do not sting and have bigger eyes. If you blow your breath on the bees, they became agitated and get louder and move faster. This is because it makes them think that there is a predator nearby and they need to flee!
