Full Speed Ahead in the Month of May

Dear Clairbourn Families,

I just met with the CFA to discuss the Carnival, and you are in for a treat. They have been working hard to be sure this event will be fun for everyone. I have seen the plan, and I can't wait!

I have also been hearing about the Spring Concert. Mrs. Kiertzner has been working within the guidelines to be sure the concert is a success as well. We have the concert scheduled to be outside to maximize safety and also ensure the whole parent cheering section is comfortable and can spread out. I can't wait to see the happy, singing children showing you what hard work and steady practice can bring.

May is a very busy month full of events, concerts, sports, celebrations, and lots of learning. Let's enjoy it!

Note cards will be available at transportation. Please stop by to write thank you notes for them, which will be delivered daily. Don't forget about our wonderful specialists, too! For questions, please contact Lucy Balikian or Diana Balimori.
Wavelength & Frequency

Eighth Grade Science Exploration

Last week, the eighth grade science class gained first-hand knowledge of the relationship between wavelength and wave speed through a hands-on experiment. Students varied their walking speed while making waves with colored water to determine the effect of speed on wavelength and frequency. After measuring the wavelength, time, and number of waves, students calculated frequency and then used both the wave speed formula and the distance-rate-time formula to analyze their speeds.
Auction Item Highlights

Pizza, Movie, Games!

Last week, winners of first to third class auction parties enjoyed a relaxing pizza and movie get-together with their teachers! The 2B class even got to play party games with Mrs. Roberts! Let's check out some of the fun they had!

Culinary Experience with Mrs. Rubio

Five second graders joined our lower school Spanish teacher, Mrs. Rubio, to learn how to make corn tortillas from scratch while sharpening their Spanish language skills. They had an afternoon of fun learning and tasting!
Clairbourn Connection

Our Clairbourn Alumni Return with Their Children!

Clairbourn has been home to many families for nearly ten decades. The Clairbourn Connection is now continuing with the children of our alumni. Did you know there are nine parents this year who were Clairbourn students themselves? They are Anne Gifford Ewing '92, Taryn Robison Johnson '00, Amanjit Kler '95, Michael Martinez '04, Sabraj Nijjar '95, Michael Nijjar '97, Bridget Bowie Paciorek '85, John Paul Paciorek '85 and Marcel Sabella '94. We love seeing our Clairbourn alumni back on campus!
Orthopedics & Neurology

Presentation in Seventh Grade Science

Seventh grade is studying the nervous system and they had Dr. Zori Buser, a seventh grade parent, share her research in orthopedics and neurology. Dr. Buser explained the role of the spinal cord which connects the nervous system to all the other systems in the body. The students were especially interested in learning about spinal injuries and surgeries and were grateful to Dr. Buser for answering their many questions.

How old is our Earth? It's 4.543 billion years old. Since the first Earth Day in 1970, we have 1 billion individuals and 190+ countries committed to making Earth a better place. Nearly every city in California has programs throughout the year and goals to reduce waste. Here are some Earth Day and eco-related events happening throughout California this weekend!

Battle of the Bands

The band Rooted was formed by several Clairbourn students, including current students Shalom L. (vocals /guitar), Selina Y. (keyboard/ synthesizer) and Valen S. (bass). Last week, Rooted participated in the Monrovia Battle of the Bands which has been held for the past 15 years. They were one of the seven bands competing.
