Student Council's Inspiring Fundraiser

Student Council is leading a campus-wide fundraiser to raise awareness for the Australian wildfires and to support the Adelaide Koala Rescue in Australia. The Adelaide Koala Rescue crew is working day and night to rescue the millions of animals affected by the damaging bush fires in Australia. Student Council is working with Clairbourn's sister school in Australia, Huntingtower, to raise funds and spread awareness. Students in every grade have been given an order form where they can purchase two fundraising items- a plush koala toy and Tim Tams (Tim Tams are a delicious, chocolate-dipped cookie that is very popular in Australia). Tim Tams are priced at $5 and the koala is $15. All proceeds will be donated to the Adelaide Koala Rescue, and additional financial contributions will be accepted along with your orders. Please turn in your orders by Tuesday, February 4. View the order form.

Clairbourn 2020 Engineering Design Challenge

Cranes—the heavy-lifting kind—are all around us, and they perform vital roles in a variety of industries. They can lift or lower tremendous amounts of weight, move loads into position, and enable construction companies to ascend their buildings into the skies.  An opportunity to explore the mechanical principles of these fascinating machines was presented to Clairbourn students during their annual Engineering Week Design Challenge in January of 2020.

Scout Leaders Earn District Awards

Scout leader Jenny Chun Fung, who is the mom of sixth-grader Justin F., was nominated for and received the District Award of Merit from the Rose Bowl District. Jenny earned this award for her exceptional service to the scouts. This is the highest award that can be given to an adult leader by the Rose Bowl District.

Another Clairbourn parent, Siyi Zhao, who is Mars Z.'s mom, also received an award from the Rose Bowl District Committee. This award is the Extra Miler Award, which is given to a scout leader who goes above and beyond to improve the scouting experience for scouts. Congratulations goes to both leaders for their dedication and hard work towards the scouting experience.

Coronavirus Safety - Head of School Message

Dear Clairbourn Community,

The coronavirus has been the topic of discussion in the news and in our parent community, so I want to reassure you that Clairbourn is watching the situation carefully and monitoring the CDC advice. At this time, the CDC has advised that the best way to keep our community safe and healthy is the same for both the coronavirus and the flu or cold. When individuals are sick, they need to stay home and seek appropriate medical help. The CDC advises that the best way to prevent the coronavirus and other viruses are:
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
To learn more, visit:

The Clairbourn community is a caring and supportive group, and we are counting on each family to follow the CDC guidelines to the best of their ability and help support the health and safety of the whole community. Thank you for your support and care of our children.

Sincerely,

Amy Patzlaff, Ed.D.
Head of School
