Empowering Middle School Math Students At Clairbourn

Clairbourn School’s Middle School Math Teacher, Rebecca Messler, returned from winter break excited to share with her fellow teachers powerful ideas gleaned from the California Mathematics Council South Conference which she attended in mid-November of 2019.

Messler shared the idea of incorporating “Rich Open-Ended Tasks” (ROET) into one’s teaching methods. She explained this simple concept can be easily implemented and produces stronger engagement and increased understanding of subject matter among students with differentiated learning styles.

Engineering Design Challenge Is Coming!

Next week, from January 21-24, students in Grades 1-8 will participate in a week-long Engineering Design Challenge. Returning for a second year are engineers from Skanska, a world leading project development and construction group. These experts will visit classrooms to help guide and support the students in their design builds. The engineers have worked on many projects such as the Los Angeles Light Rail Transit, New York City major bridge crossings, and the Interstate and State Route HOV Interchange in Sylmar.

Don't miss the Skanska presentation at the Wednesday Morning Assembly. Thursday, classes will test their designs throughout the day. After Morning Assembly on Friday we will hold the final challenge.
